TE's

Roy CO HSKR

Five-Star Recruit
Given that Herian is solid at one TE, how about the other when 2 tight end sets are in or a backup for Herian? My sense is that Phillips is a blccker who rarely will catch the ball. Is Mueller the heir to that other postion and as a backup to Herian? The TE is crucial to the WCO and it's absense hurt us last year.

Mueller seems to be the guy that could back up Herian, not sure why he didn't play more this year, he is a huge target at 6'7" but I'm not sure how well he runs. I look for Pierre Allen to be an interesting prospect at TE in a few years, put on some weight, keep the great athleticism, and you have a Tony Gonzalez type TE.

I still question how effective Herian will really be. There's a possibility he may never play again. I really feel that way. If he does will he be tentative, shy away from contact?????

WIll he be a junior or senior?

Tomerlin should see some action. I don't thank Phillips or Sievers will see as much time as they did this year. Hopefully Heiran and Tomerlin see the most action. I know nobody has seen Tomerlin play but he has to be better then what we got from our TE's this year.

I doubt we see Phillips anytime soon. He is a horrible pass blocker and doesn't know how to shake off defenders. He lacks speed and the only thing going for him is his height. If Herian isn't starting, i expect Tomerlin to get the majority of the snaps next year untill we cna recruit a quality TE to back him up. I don't expect Phillips and Mueller to last long and expect them to transfer to Northern Colorado to follow downing in a year or so.

I think mueller is 6-5...still a great size target as herian is also 6-5

he will be listed as a senior, but will still have 2 years of elegibility left since he never redshirted

Anybody know for sure if Tomerlin is for sure gonna be working on TE or DE? I'll make sure I ask him Wednesday night when I see him.

Herian burned his redshirt this season. He will be a 5th year senior next year. I look for Mueller to be used as the other TE still in 2 TE sets, since he was the best blocking tight end that we have(unless Tomerlin turns out to be a great blocker). Like ETR said, who knows how effective Herian will be. Who knows how effective Tomerlin will be? From what I recall, he hasn't played tight end in a game for almost 5 years(although he was practicing with the TE's this season). I would like to see what Pierre Allen can do, but he may be a candidate for a redshirt to learn the offense and get in a groove working with Watson.

Actually IIRC, Herian was granted a medical redshirt waiver this year meaning it count a little different toward his eligibility (similiar to Jason White who was at OU for 6 years). Medical redshirts are different then the regular redshirts. NCAA rules state you are allowed 4 years of playing time, 1 year of redshirt and 1 more extra year with a medical waiver as long as it fits certain guidelines (don't recall them off the top of my head) to be exempt from a regular redshirt. So in reality, Herian would have 2 more years but only 1 of them is eligible for playing time, which means if he sat out this seaosn, he could return next season. I doubt that happens because Herian graduates in May, so it would be stupid to hang around for almost a year and a half after graduating.
