The 2024 Election —What did we learn?

I didn't necessarily learn that a white male Democrat could have beaten Lord Cheeto, but I suspect that.  A woman is "bad enough" as President, but a Black Woman.  Horrors.

I did learn that the United States is not what it's cracked up to be, as to inclusion, humanity, all the ideals we put out there as expectations for other countries.  We ain't it.

Is there any chance at all that the next 4 years end up as anything remotely good for us? 

Right now, I am really interested to see how the market reacts for the next few months. 

Watch Social Security.  Especially Medicare and SS Retirement.

I would agree with you but then ask did it actually ever matter when we look back at the scandals many of our elected leaders Have had that didn’t come to light till after they left office.   Meaning the reporters at the time kept them from us.  
 

JFK was a womanizing druggie and he’s celebrated as one of the best ever.  Jimmy and Ronald might have been the last two character presidents in quite some time. 

However, no one, JFK, Nixon included, ever had felony and rapist labels tied around their neck like Trump.  These were scarlet letters in full view.  Other candidates have had their campaigns derailed by the smallest of indiscretions.   Trump - not so much.  That is why I think MAGA is a personality cult.  The GOP of the 1990s: Character matters.  The GOP of today:  Character be dammed.

Donald Trump election win turbocharges stocks, cryptocurrency and Trump Media




Dow futures soared nearly 1,400 points, or 3.2%, lifting the blue-chip market into record terrain before the start of trade on Wednesday. S&P 500 futures were up more than 2%, while the tech-heavy Nasdaq Composite also looked set to open strong. 

Although markets have pushed to new highs this year, Wall Street analysts warn that some of Trump's key policy proposals could rekindle U.S. inflation, dampen economic growth and drive up the nation's debts. Specifically, Trump has proposed imposing tariffs of up to 20% on foreign goods and up to 60% on Chinese imports.

Or could he be regretting he didn't get out soon enough so that a full blown primary could have fully vetted the Dem candidate (Harris or whoever if there was a real primary) and prepared them better for the general.

Biden would have lost by much more.

What do you foresee with those?  

The Republicans have been scheming for privatization of both for quite some time.  As to how long that'd take to happen, I think it'd take more than 4 years of a Presidency to make it happen, but he can get it rolling.  He does want to mess with it, we know that, and we also know that anything he messes with is to the benefit of corporations and the very rich.  It sounds cliche, because it's been repeated so much. 

SS needs to be tended to be very clever people with a mission to not just shore it up but to make it sustainable.  That would likely take more SS taxes on income of pre-retirement workers.  Hard to swallow, and a big Boogey Man for Republicans (taxing the rich, more taxes in general). 

As for Medicare, watch for it to gradually vanish into the hands of insurance corporations.

This ^^^. Kamala would have never made it out of primary based on her 2020 performance and unpopularity as VP. Dems would have had the opportunity to put up someone else.... But I doubt Biden is thinking this.

Presumptive President-elect Donald Trump scored somewhere between 41% and 45% of the Hispanic vote, and also seems to have improved among Black voters, particularly in crucial swing states.
