The big question

Who will be the starting quarterback in 2010?

Voted for CG. Frankly I don't buy that Zacs' injury is what made him sub-par last year. And if he is still our best option after missing spring ball then we are in for another fall of eye-gouging offense.......

Zac Lee. Mostly because he's the incumbent. Cody is going to improve dramatically from last year, I believe, and with Lee missing time due to injury it's going to be hard for him to stay on top. It's not often you see an injured player replaced on the depth chart... but then again, it's not often you see an offense as inept as ours was last year. I think it's Lee, but I think he's got a tough task in keeping his #1 status.

I will say this, though - of Green and Lee, only Lee had anything close to a "good" game last year. Even discounting the Sun Belt garbage games, he played well enough to win against VA Tech, and he was instrumental in trouncing Arizona. We just didn't see that from Cody.

The caveat to all this is the fact that Green was a true Freshman. He wasn't recruited here because he sucks - he has legit skill, and as a sophomore with some real-life game experience to build on, he poses a huge threat to Lee. If Green had started the last couple of games last year, I'd have voted for him.

I think it's pretty much a coin-flip between Lee and Green right now.

I hope for Cody Green, because that would mean he got better. I don't think Zac Lee can improve much, but I have been wrong many times before.. I just hope whoever goes out there is 5X better than anything last season.

I voted Zac Lee. I'm not particularly happy about that but Cody Green hasn't shown me anything yet.

Cody Green. I believe his problem last year was in managing an offense and learning how to abandon plays when needed. He didn't get the tempo, and often times messed up the snap count which messed up the whole team. I think he's learned how to manage an offense, call audibles, call snap counts, and even how to not force throws. I think we are going to see Green come in for fall and beat out Lee for the starting position... However, Lee will be breathing down his neck to take it back. Hopefully we'll be winning games by so much that we'll play them both. : )

I had to go with Zac Lee. He's got a full season under his belt and maybe has a lot of that pressure off his chest now. He seemed to look good against the Sun Belt, VT, Mizzou, and he surprised alot of Husker fans during the Arizona game. Lee showed his running ability that was talked about all off season last year during the Arizona game and hopefully we'll see more of that in 2010.

All of this QB hype especially with Taylor Martinez is great and all but I'm not going to buy into that since I did last year with all of the Lee and Green hype and was disappointed during the 09' season.

I hope I'm wrong and all of this talk of the QB competition is true and hopefully it'll show for the upcoming season.

Gotta go with Lee....Green just didn't show me too much last year...I think the expectations were just too high for him though in all fairness. I am hoping he has matured and has a better grasp of the offense for next fall b/c he did show some signs of being an exciting QB to watch.

I went for Martinez because I could only vote for one. Green would be by 2nd pick & Spano my 3rd. If Lee is our "best", we're just pretenders and I'll brace myself for yet another year of 10,000 excuses.

I guess I just dont understand how a surgery requiring injury to the elbow on his throwing arm is not what caused many if not all of Zac's struggles last year. After knowing of that injury and looking back on a lot of film, it's easy to understand that he simply had no confidence in making a lot of throws. Not to mention, the offense's issues went far far beyond quarterback play, tho it did start there. Zac Lee will be the starter, he has the experience, he will be healthy for fall to hold his position, he will have better backs, receivers, and line around him, and he will be fine. And if this is so, Cody does make some serious improvement, i think it would be a seroius thought to redshirting green in order to get 3 years with him as most likely a future starter.

I would agree, especially with your last sentence. Lee has the game experience and he already won the job once, but Green is arguably the fan favorite who has a lot of potential. And, Green is young, so a lot of fans generally like seeing the younger guy start because that means he'll be better when he's older (but only in situations like the one Nebraska is in right now).

I partially disagree on one point. While I don't think Cody had a full good game last year, I thought he had a pretty good first half against Baylor. The second half was less than desirable, but he had an amazing pass to Niles Paul in the first half.

I voted Cody Green, but it's pretty much a coin flip at this point. Zac Lee missing spring ball has really leveled the playing field I think. Cody has been putting in his time in the film room and is also the better athlete of the two, but Zac has more experience. It will be interesting to see how much Lee's injury was affecting his accuracy, because that was my biggest knock on him this last season. Even when he hit receivers on the long passes, they were generally underthrown and kept receivers from being able to make a TD off of it.

Unless Zac just can't come back from his injury he will start next year. Did he make some horrific passes? Yes, but we saw that he can make good throws and good decisions. I just don't think anyone unseats a healthy ZLee.

Green, baby, Green. The biggest thing he lacked last year was composure. The snaps he takes in spring ball will help with that. As the game slows down for him he will become more accurate, make better reads and better decisions, and develop composure.

I think you should have added a second poll question... WHO WILL BE THE STARTING QB AT THE END OF THE 2010 SEASON?

I voted for Zac, because I just don't think anyone else is quite ready to be the starter mentally. But if he falters at all, I think you will see Bo and Watson make a change. I think Watson's job could be on the line if the offense sputters like last year. I think he will be asked to either find another job somewhere else or will be asked to step down, otherwise they will fire him. There is a lot of pressure on him this year. I think Cotton's job could be on the line too, so they better have some solutions.
