Lee, he's got the year under his belt and actually played well the last few games, also improvement to the O line is what the QB stable needs to turn this offense around.

Zac Lee. Mostly because he's the incumbent. Cody is going to improve dramatically from last year, I believe, and with Lee missing time due to injury it's going to be hard for him to stay on top. It's not often you see an injured player replaced on the depth chart... but then again, it's not often you see an offense as inept as ours was last year. I think it's Lee, but I think he's got a tough task in keeping his #1 status.

I will say this, though - of Green and Lee, only Lee had anything close to a "good" game last year. Even discounting the Sun Belt garbage games, he played well enough to win against VA Tech, and he was instrumental in trouncing Arizona. We just didn't see that from Cody.

The caveat to all this is the fact that Green was a true Freshman. He wasn't recruited here because he sucks - he has legit skill, and as a sophomore with some real-life game experience to build on, he poses a huge threat to Lee. If Green had started the last couple of games last year, I'd have voted for him.

I think it's pretty much a coin-flip between Lee and Green right now.

I really like what you have stated. However, I voted for CG. I just don't know if I want to accept the fact that Lee's injury is what kept the offense so dreary last season. I think that, with the experience gained last season, Green is ready to take the spot. He has had all winter to study more of the playbook as well, so he won't be as limited.

While i will agree that not all problems on offense last year were with the QB spot. Zac Lee did have his fair share of them, some can be put on his arm, some on his lack of game time experience. I mean he only threw one interception and made a few bad choices to run the ball during VaTech, but it was a pretty good game for his first road game in one of the loudest stadiums in college football. After that though, it just seemed to be him trying to do too much at the wrong time, or mismanaging the game and not stepping up as a leader. Cody Green looked good during the Baylor, with the exception of the pick 6. I've said this before, if Blatchford didn't return the blocked punt for TD, that Baylor game could have had a different outcome.

All in all, Lee was my choice. But i hope that if Lee does not produce better results than last year, Cody Green should take over and show us what he has learned so far in Watson's system. I think Zac Lee's test will come against Washington, the same goes for Cody Green. Who ever the starter is, no QB has proven to me that the QB spot is secure until we face off against Washington and win convincingly.

I'd say aside from the Texas game, Va Tech was his worst. He went 11-30 and actually had 2 INTs. Although the second was on a hail mary after the big VT touchdown. Against legitimate defenses, he was pedestrian at best. Is that because we ran the ball mostly against the teams? Probably, but thats because the coaches didn't trust him to throw the ball.

I hope the torn flexor tendon is to blame. but I have a hard time believing that that's the case when he went 15-18 for 200 something against ULL 2 weeks after the injury.

It's definitely not fair to blame all the offensive trouble on him though, not at all. The play calling didn't help much.

I'd rather start Brion than go back to the ''hope he does enough and our defense dominates'' route we took last year. I'm betting the coaches do too. They don't want that crapola we called an offense last year anymore than we do. Do you think they want to relive what made them call Texas Big 12 Champ impostors last year? The reason they were so pissed last year after that game was they knew they had built a defense to take the title and it was basically one position that killed that dream. Forget the injury mumbo jumbo also. I'd imagine they have retooled the O to work to CG's. KS's, TM"s and BC's strengths and let the best take the reins. They won't be taking major chances on offense like throwing it all over the field, but they want to have someone in there that can bust a big play. Lee won't play much unless we have significant injuries. You heard it here first. :steam :steam :steam

It would be awesome to see someone we didn't expect to emerge yet for the starting position to be the Starting QB (Martinez anyone???)
It seems like Spano is kind of that unsung guy. Not really talked about too much in comparison to Green and Zac Lee. He's almost the Joe Ganz of the group in terms of not coming in with all the accolades like some of the other quarterbacks have. It would be really cool if he emerged. I wish I knew more about him talent wise. I think I read somewhere on this board, maybe it was a quote from Watson that Spano may have the strongest arm of all the quarterbacks? I am not sure.
Im curious to see what Spano can do without being injury. Spano was rushed way too fast to try and comeback from last years spring injury. In the back of my mind, I think there was a reason... look at our offense last year. Which tells me the coaches werent totally sold on Lee before last season. But maybe Kody pushed it too far. I hope the kid stays healthy.

Agree with ya..... after we intercepted McCoy the second time, we came out in 5 wide set and threw up for graps and got picked off. Then on Pauls punt return we had the ball on the 4 yard line and could not get a TD, unbelievable!!!! I blame Lee on the first one and watson on the second. those two possessions lost us the game, not phantom second.

Way to go Captain K you got me all fired up :steam

I went with Zac.

We tend to forget that this is a team game. We do not have a single QB that is more of a proven team player than Zac. He gave a lot of himself last year, and God knows I was not a huge supporter of him last year.

He played most of the season injured, led the team and taking a lot of blame for the failures, never saying a word about what turned out to be very unfair comments. He led them to victory in a bowl game that most felt was a toss up at best. His drive and motivation dictated that game. That is going to go a long ways in the teams eyes and the coaches eyes. Awful hard to forget what he did and how he did it.

He has game day experience against our toughest competition. No others have had that level of competition.

If anyone is to set Zac Lee down, he will have to be heads and shoulders above him to get the job. You do not demote a proven leader if it is neck and neck I do not think.

These love affairs with the younger players happen every year. The coaching staff knows what is best for the team, I repeat team. My guess is Zac will be the QB in 2010, but if someone is truly better I will be happy for them.
