The coaches have lost this team....

"I know it was ‘pound the rock’ last year,” Lucky said. “This year, it’s something new.”

What’s that?

“Go out there,” Lucky said, “and do what we can.”

This is a very sad commentary on what they are trying to accomplish as a team, and shows little to no faith in the coaches (IMHO). And yes, even us fans have to take a little of the blame...

Also from LJS article...

“(Shoot), I was mad,” Lucky said Wednesday. “I don’t know, man, because I was just wanting to get after ’em. They were talking too much … fans, Facebooking. I was just upset, just like everybody else.

What idiot fans are facebooking players - like they don't already have enough to worry about with school, football, and a season that isn't going like expected.

I don't mind people venting their frustrations on message boards - players have the ability to not read them. But messaging them on their facebook pages is really no different, IMHO, then calling them and leaving them messages on their phone. They use those pages to communicate with their friends, so they have either to quit talking to their friends or read the comments.

I think the vast majority of people are very upset with the coaching situation. But lay the f*ck off the players. I think they are doing everything they can within the current system. If the players aren't playing with fire then I blame team leadership, it is not like the don't want to play with fire. If there is no team leadership, then I go back to the coaches - what in the hell are they doing to develop team leadership? I've been in several situations at work where a team that I put together to accomplish a task has had nobody step up and lead it. When that happens, do I just sit there and let them flounder??? No, I find was to develop the strongest people in that group into leaders. THAT IS WHAT THESE COACHES ARE SUPPOSE TO BE DOING - DEVELOPING FUTURE LEADERS. Nobody knew that better than TO. However, we will just let these coaches review game film, play with there X's and O's and completely ignore the human/emotional factor in college football. Doesn't everyone see that is what is missing with this team, and the coaches have spent the last four years refusing to address it.

Ok, I'm done now. :rant

I still don't know why so many of these "fans" act as though the sky is falling. Nebraska has lost two games; get over it. A lot of teams have lost games this year that they weren't supposed to; Michigan, Notre Dame, Texas, Southern Cal, Oklahoma, the list goes on and on. Every weekend brings upsets. The recent variations on the spread offense has tended to equalize games and set defenses on their heals. It's just like the option used to be when it was new; it seemed unstoppable, and lots of DC's were pulling out their hair. They figured it out, though, and that phase ended.

The same is true with the current fad of spreading players all over the field. I think that coaches will ultimately find that the QB is absolutely key to this offense, and absolutely vulnerable. They will eventually stop trying to account for each and every potential receiver for 5 seconds, and dedicate themselves to getting to the QB in 3. Believe it or not, the old 5-2 defense might be what it takes to disrupt those teams. Once that happens, it falls apart.

At the same time, a lot of good coaches have been infected to varying degrees with this spread madness. Eventually the weaknesses will become apparent (it favors weaker teams and weakens stronger teams), and they will abandon all thoughts of it from their own offenses. It will go back to solid ball control, power ground games, and a stable QB that can throw the ball down field. Nebraska is building exactly that team today.

I have every reason to be optimistic about this team. The talent is there (albeit young), the coaching is solid, and there is still a good base of real fans that will continue to cheer for the HUSKERS.

Here is the reason "the sky is falling":

From: http://web1.ncaa.org/d1mfb/natlRank.jsp?ye...ef&site=org

Bowl Subdivision (FBS) National Team Report

Total Defense

Year: 2007 Thru: 10/06/07 Minimum Pct. of Games Played

Rank Name Games Plays Yds Avg TDs Ydspgm Wins Losses Ties

96 Nebraska 6 462 2649 5.73 22 441.50 4 2 0

And granted, we have played a semi-tough schedule, but c'mon, the other 95 teams ahead of us have played plenty of spread offenses as well.

Nebraska has lost two games; get over it.
It's not the fact we've lost the games. It's the manner in which we lost these games that infuriates the fans, including myself. In the past 4 games, as a result of the "solid coaching" staff, we've given up over 2000yds offense to our opponents. We've had 40 or more points scored on us 3 times this year-the first time in decades. Our offense failed to score a TD for the first time in a long time. Had our two losses been close games, there probably wouldn't be much griping from the fans. But they weren't close games.

I could handle a game where they lose a hard fought and competitive game.

What were seeing is a defense that gives up an average 441.5 yards a game. An offense that struggles whenever they play a defense that actually any good or sometimes not (Missouri).

The point of this thread however is too not send messages personally to the fans over facebook. If you need to vent to the NU team, tell it to the University not the players.

Thanks JHawk - that was my original point. Seemed to get hijacked though.

You're right on. It's right up there with booing your own team, in a close game when the team needs your support. I still can't get over that. I don't know how these people consider themselves fans. It's embarrassing.

The booing I can somewhat understand - it is a knee-jerk reaction to the defensive coaching. However, I woudn't do it because obviously the players are not going to feel very supportive getting booed (when your booing during the game, you a booing the entire team, not just the coaches).

The sending message to players over face book, I just can't. E-mail the coaches, as Mike Gundy said - They're men, they can take it.
