This would be awesome.  :)   If we're going to play like a high school team we should have a HS coach.  Through his motivating ability alone we would win at least 3 more games.

Alberts would be a decided downgrade over the names being floated right now.  Nebraska needs to hire someone with existing P5 conference.  AD is not a spot to take a chance on someone.

Why? Riley is already toast bro, who cares, lets make the next AD's job a little easier for him and fire Riley for him.

Let the guy focus on finding the right coach. Not helping Grandpa pack his suitcase for his Alaskan cruise...

Cavanaugh and Langsdorf are fired

They bring in a top tier OLine Coach and Pay up for an ELITE Offensive Coordinator on a 1 year deal. An OC who runs a more power run focused version of the WCO.

You hire that elite OC with the understanding that if things go well they will be given the head job within 5 years.  

This gives Diaco a full year to let us see if his D will work, you give yourself a shot at an elite OC with a senior QB without a system change and if you strike gold GREAT. You have solidified your future on Offense and Defense and don't go full panic mode.

If it fails then you fire Riley and reboot with more money (say $5-7M) to put towards a new coach (Pelini, Riley and Eichorsts contracts are 1 more year off the books) and an easier schedule in 2019 for that first year transition.

Basically I'd rather risk 2018 being a complete throwaway year in hopes of getting lucky than to trust our Adminiatration not to just make another on the cheap midlevel hire simply because we're paying Millions of dollars for a bunch of people not to work at Nebraska anymore.

It sounds insane after watching what happened tonight, but honestly I Still would trust Riley's ability to hire an elite OC and OL Coach for next year more than I trust our Admin's abilty to hire a new Head Coach that is what we want them to be.  As long as those coaches have no affiliation with Oregon State.

The bold is clearly untrue. The Riley era is over except for the shouting at this point, but there's no reason to say stuff like this except to claim a pound of flesh on the way out. And it does nothing except divide us. Be angry with how poorly the Huskers have done under Riley, but let's treat the coaches as professionals and not have insanity reign, like when there were multiple death threats against Cosgrove. Riley's a good guy that failed as HC at Nebraska, let's try to move on without the need to denigrate the man.

 
I've seen a number of posts saying that Riley will be fired this week. Does that really help us in any way? Unless the replacement coach isn't currently coaching, I don't think firing Riley before the end of the season does much for us.

Fair enough. Riley and his staff have been "good men", but they haven't done much of anything on the field.

I get that, but I as angry as people are, I want to lower that to a simmer and hope that cooler heads prevail. If we really are the best fans in college football, let's move on and wish the former coach well. There's nothing to be gained by being spiteful towards Riley, but it could hurt us in the search for the next coach (or coach after that, or coach for another sport, etc.)

 
The best thing for MR may be to get fired now. That way he doesn't have to do press conferences after bad losses, and suffer through the rest of this season. He gets paid either way, and if he is fired now, he can relax.

Coordinators don’t go to the podium; only HC and a few players do. Other coaches and players are usually available in the hallway outside the locker room.
