I am not caught up on scheme too much. I just want us to run something and do it well.
I do appreciate a passing attack, though, with a QB that's either fast or slow but gets the ball to his RBs, WRs, and TEs. Personal preference. I am able to get on board with a zone read option attack, too. Whatever it is, it is most important to not tear it up constantly and just build towards something for a few years.
I suspect it's the same for most on defense. 4-3, 3-4, Peso, read and react, attacking, whatever, as long as it is good and it works. But there is more variety with offense (in name, at least) and we get caught up championing "WCO" or "Run n Gun" or "Power-I" or "Spread" or "Zone Read" or "Triple Option" or whatever is the latest catchphrase...Pistol? Diamond? ...

Scheme matters, but execution is what wins.
I think our schemes are pretty solid, we scored a lot in quite a few games. Our faults lie in the execution, dropped passes against Texas, poor pocket presence by Taylor in the CCG, lack of composure in the A&M game with penalties. With the exception of TE, every offensive position coach has room for improvement, Gilmore and the WR's need to catch the ball, the OL still in penalized too much, our RB ball security needs to improve, and our QB play has to get better with pocket presence, ball security and throwing accuracy.
Even with those problems, we still had a good offense this year, clean up those areas and we could be great in 2011.

It seems to me that ever since we have switched to a zone-read type of offense our offense has "lost" it's identity. Well, except for when we had a healthy T-Mart, then the offensive identity was basically T-Mart clicking off long gains. Anyway, back to topic. It seems to me that none of our offensive coaches have any experience in coaching the zone-read type offense. I know I know, they go to coaching clinics, they visit other campuses, etc. But maybe, just maybe we don't have the staff that can do this sort of thing.
If you were to switch offensive styles, what would it be? I like the power running game, with a lot of play action thrown in, run out of the I/off-set I. To maximize T-Mart's running ability, I'd throw a lot of rollout passes, with about 1/2 of those including the run-pass option.

this. get back to basics of using the run to open up the pass, and using the run to finish off games. im tired of foo-foo flavor of the month offenses.

what Alabama is running. Downhill running between the tackles. It limits the mistakes the QB can make. Throw in some play action and some 4 or 5 receiver sets with some screen passes.

We put a QB in that in practice this fall threw it two straight reps for a pick 6, so it came out of the playbook.

That is a very interseting question. I think I remember the Stoops brothers going out and doing at somepoint a couple of years ago. I know Solich went out after he was let go. I think he spent a whole year doing that.

Jim Harbaugh's pro set is a dream. Watch the Stanford offense vs VaTech and tell me that wouldn't work for us...as long as we execute it.
I'm cool with the spread option, which is what we've been moving towards. But I'd LOVE to see the Tom Osborne twist on that offense. If you watch that 1997 offense, especially what they did in the double wing set, I just can't imagine the possibilities if Tom Osborne had kept tinkering with his offense into the modern day, as the zone read came into prominence.
Well no kidding, of course it'd be great if TO would have stayed.
I don't think anyone will be happy until we have TO back calling plays, Milt coaching the line, Brown running the TE's and WR's, Gill coaching the QB's and Solich coaching the RB's again.
