The offense I'd like to run is _____________

ill be happy when we have an offense that imposes its will. not one that we hope comes up with a crazy wrinkly every week to match up with an opponent and cover its own weaknesses.
This. Im tired of hearing Watson and the other coaches say that we are going to take what the defense gives us. Now it is filtering down into the players as well. All we ever hear is, oh we are so multiple, we can take anything the defense gives us. That is just a bunch of west coast BS coachspeak. All it is, is making excuses and saying that we have no identity so we are just gonna try and find something that works each week.

I want an offense that TAKES WHAT IT WANTS, not what the defense is gonna give. When its 3rd and 3 and the defense has 10 guys in the box, I want an offense that isn't afraid to run it right up the middle because we know we are better than the defense and will get OUR 3 yards.

Anybody watch Wisconsin this year? I haven't, but I know they're physical, and I know they were putting up ridiculous amounts of points at the end of the year. I just don't really know what they run.

Offense would be Singleback and strong "I" Formation with plays like Trips Bunch, Empty Bunch, Tight Slots, Slot Strong, and Twin TE/WR. The run sets up the pass, smash mouth and run the ball down their throats followed by the playaction pass. There would be lots of audibles with players in motion and constant confusion, they wouldn't know whats coming and would be left discombobulated.

Anything but the offense that we ran in 2002-2003. I am very afraid that we will gravitate back towards that when Watson leaves eventually.

Well, our defense takes what the other teams' offense gives us in a way as well.

yeah, but they TAKE it. They leave guys one on one. They play with balls and gumption. They do more daring of people than sitting back and taking it. They dictate whats gonna happen and spring on it. Far different from what the offense does...i mean, they are called offense and defense for a reason-and for all intents and purposes we have it backwards.

What I saw this year before the ankle injury, except Texas, is the blueprint to build off of for the BIG TEN. Add WR that can burn on the outside and work the slot (catch the ball in traffic) or TE like we do now. Get somebody in here that can teach these QB's how to pass and have pocket presence when needed. To be a player in the BIG TEN, you have to be able to run heavy n play action pass, but if you dont get the passing respect....you're DOOMED!

I'd take 2002-2003 over 2009-2010 any day of the week. Especially vs any decent offense.

Watching J. Lord passing the ball was painful but not nearly as bad as seeing Z. Lee run the option.

I'd kind of like to see us run a spread like Oregon but I don't think it matters too much what offense we run as long as we have the right coaches and players in place to execute it properly.

Our offense right now is very similar to oregons, we just dont run constant no-huddle like they do, which could probably help

Eh, I think "take what we want" is just another motivational one-liner coaches use to pump up guys and instill an attitude, rather than a true reflection of almost any gameplan.

You look at our defense, which is successful, but I think it's characterized wrong here. Analysts often refer to it as a read and react system. They sit back and watch, and then they act based on what the offense shows. In fact, defenses always make adjustments based on the look the offense gives them, and vice versa. You call a play on offense but then you see a weakside blitz unaccounted for, so as QB, you would have to change up the protection packages. Or maybe the play is trying to exploit a certain coverage that the defense often shows (again, taking what is given). And if the defense shows a different coverage, you might instruct the QB to check to a play that would attack that one instead. If the defense is loading up to take away the run, you hit 'em with some playaction or slants or whatever. If they are sitting deep and the clock is ticking down, you work the intermediate range and try to march down the field enough until the defense starts to tighten up.

Multiple is a bad word around here now but every offense is multiple these days, they have to be. Multiplicity is the way almost any offense beats a defense, by not being predictable. We have not been able to be real multiple this year anyway, at all. In fact our offense has been stripped down a good amount and it has been fairly predictable at times, just because it has the handcuffs on it. Same thing last year when we went into shell mode, tried to punch one in once or twice but otherwise stuck with straight power running. As we all remember, it was painful to watch.

all this discussion just reminded me of something...anyone notice that TM has rarely, if at all, called an audible or changed the play at the line of scrimmage?....that development in his play has obviously not emerged yet!
