The Optimist's Thread

Before the game I said I would be happy if we played competitively. Of course I never thought we'd have much of a chance to win, and there we were with .01 on the clock and in the lead. So despite playing an awesome game and playing more than competitively, I was not happy at all. But there's nothing we can do about it now, and at the very least the entire nation respects us now.

All it takes is one look at other message boards to see them talking about how we deserved that win and how hard we played. My friend went to the Bama/Florida game and said afterward everyone was talking about how awesome our defense is while watching the B12CG. We have earned respect and at the very least shown we can hang with just about anyone, and that's without having an offense. We played hard, hopefully earned the attention of recruits, and most importantly have shown we are heading in the right direction.

Pelini has been able to prepare our team for the big games, and this is crucial for the future. We lost by 1 point to VT, 1 point to Texas, 2 points to ISU, and the TTU game we got beat but largely due to injuries and misplays. The point is that we are not getting blown out anymore and we are prepared for games with huge implications and road games. The North will be ours for a long time.

I am hopeful for next year. Pelini says that we'll be as good defensively, although I doubt that without Suh, but it still should be very good, especially in the secondary. We have emerging stars at the D Line too and we should be a top 20 defense for sure. The offense can't get any worse, and we are a very young football team with a lot of growing to do, but you can already see signs for the future in players like Paul and Kinnie and Burkhead. If we can get our offense situated and a QB emerges as the true leader, I see good things for us.

That loss was the worst I've ever experienced, I truly felt robbed regardless of the penalties and clock and officiating. The point is, we led the #3 team in the nation with .01 on the clock. We outplayed a team who has consistently recruited far better than we have. Imagine what will happen when we get our offense going and the recruiting that Pelini wants. There is no doubt in my mind now after this game that Pelini is the right man for the job and that we have a bright future.

May 2010 be a special year.

Like you, trying to stay positive.

And what's amazing is we were three plays from being 12-1, without an offense. Crazy.

Last night awoke a sleeping giant. The Blackshirts became the force to be reckoned with again, for years to come. We're not just coming for you Texas. We're taking this out on everyone.

Obviously the world of College Football has changed since then, but to me it is still just as much about psychology and heart and passion as it is talen and X's and O's. With that being said, does a game like this translate today into a run like we had after the Florida St. a$$-raping in 93. This is a seroius question, and i want some thoughts on this. With this group of coaches, Osborne as AD, and so on, does this enrage players so much, regardless of their recruiting star count, that they simply work HARDER than anyone else. Osborne understood the psychology part of college football, so did Solich (his talent pool just started to fade a bit), Billber did not. Is a loss like this what this team needs as THE TOOL to take motivation to a whole other level?

I think it does more so in the world of 85 scholarships. Something needs to put a team over the top all things being equal.

If Nebraska has a competent offense next year, with this defense, they are equal to or better than anyone in the nation. This travesty of a loss is the catalyst to a national title year.

This isn't Kool-aid drinking because I don't think our offense is capable until we see some games next year.

This is THE MISSION. THE WILL OF THE TEAM WILL BE IMPOSED ON EVERYONE NEXT YEAR. YOU WHO DARE CROSS US WILL KNOW THE NAME NEBRASKA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

There were a lot of positives from the game.

- the D played great

- can't say enough about our front four

- when C. Green was in he moved the pile by himself on those QB sneaks.

- suh is now in the heisman race

- recruiting on both sides should pick up (anybody who say the game knows we are an offense away from playing in the NC his year.)

-Finally, I know a lot of pepz want the championship moved up North, but that stadium looked amazing. I have never seen anything like that. That thing is worth every bit of $1.2B

I love the optimism and feel the same way. I don't necessarily feel like that was the worst loss I've ever experienced. The 1993 NCG is that for me, with the loss to Arizona State in 1996 a close second.

Didn't Osborne leave the scoreboard on during practice for the whole '94 season, displaying the time and score right before FSU took the lead in the Orange Bowl? I remember the whole "unfinished business" thing, and I'm pretty sure I remember hearing about the scoreboard.

There should be a scoreboard overlooking the practice field, reading 00:01 all season in 2010.

Yes he did. I have good friends who played on the team during that time, and Osborne would always refer to the scoreboard all year. Me thinks it worked! :)
