The RB Position - is the torch in Kenny's hands?

Three-Star Recruit
Don't know where in the world this guy is getting his information but it looks like he wanted to get some attention for himself.

Nebraska has waited for former prized recruit Marlon Lucky to develop into a legitimate threat at running back. Though Lucky has been hit-and-miss in camp, JC transfer Kenny Wilson has emerged as the leader for the starting job -- ahead of the projected rotation of Lucky and sophomore Cody Glenn. Wilson has shown good burst and an ability to run downhill after initial contact--something Nebraska lacked at the position last year. The poor running game -- 107th in the nation last season -- stunted the development of coach Bill Callahan's West Coast offense. . . .

I think Wilson will be the guy, at least by the midway point of the season, but I think it will happen by the SC game. He is too talented not to be out on the field.

Having 4 quailty running backs is a good problem to have, but only one can carry the rock. dedhoarse Wilson looks like a tank and has demonstrated his desire to be the man. I just hope that the others can accept their roles (if this is all true), I'm sure they will still get their chances.

I think in the first two games, we will see a lot out of all of them, but notice the seperation in them. Everyone will take sides out of who they want then. It will be interesting to see.

i tend to agree, the first 2 opponents should allow us to rotate all 4 guys and LOOK for seperation......what could be interesting is if there is no SIGNIFICANT difference in their production......although one would expect that there will be an edge seen here somewhere.....i am wondering if any one of these guys is the "complete" package that cally is dreaming off?? run, block, catch the ball...

unless we just fall apart with tons of mistakes, these first 2 games should be fun to watch.....and may somewhat establish who will be the primary go to guys......but remember, rotating fresh legs is not a bad strategy, if the legs are basically the same.....same argument as can be made for getting a guy 20 carries so he can get into the flow of the game.....

I think by midseason, 2 or 3 guys will be getting most of the reps, while the other(s) don't play as much. Luckily our offense is better, so in the KSUcks, sCUm, and Kansas games, more backs will get in.

IMO there will be a starter but several will get equal playing time. That being said, any back except Wilson may get the nod to start. BC will give a small and nearly insignificant nod to one of the guys who's been riding the pine while pork chop was here.

I don't think BC is going to give the starting nod to someone because they were on the bench when Ross played. He is going to give it to the player who knows the playbook the best, understands his role, and can execute the plays that are called, whether he is running, catching, or blocking.

If running stats are roughly equal, I suspect that the best blocking back will be selected for game #3 - USC. Besides running, Zac will need someone who can pick up blitzes and block. I predict the best blocking back will end up on the first unit with one qualification ..... if a back fumbles the ball, he'll drop to the bottom of the rotation regardless of his speed, moves, catching ability and blocking.

Good point. That was one of the main reasons Lucky didn't play last year. BC knows that Taylor will need all the protection he can get in the SC game, and will choose the rb accordingly.

As for Glenn and Wilson, it will depend on the team they play. Glenn has tremendous lower body strength and Wilson has tremendous upper body strength. One back perhaps would be more effective over the other depending on how each team hits.
