The Republican Utopia

Historian Jon Meacham just noted that Trump's inauguration speech was perhaps the most partisan in history.   I would agree.  Normally the new president shows some common courtesy to the retiring president, thanking them for their service, etc.  Trump didn't and went on a partisan rant and with the typical Trump boasting and grandiose  statements.    The only less inspiring inaugural speech in my lifetime was his 2017 speech.

Well, welcome to the next four years.

Where Trump is more excited to use great tag lines to stir up his base, but do absolutely zero of anything of significance.

He will sign whatever the GOP Congress will put in front of him, and tell everyone he did all of the work.  It is what it is, but he would be a lot easier to stomach if he just shut up and quietly lived his life free from repercussions in Mara Lago.

Again, as usual I am confused.

I watch TikTok and I get cooking recipes, sports stuff and teachers b!^@hing about being teachers.  That is pretty much it.

If you or your family are getting "hate" stuff and "bro-culture" stuff and Anti-Woke stuff, it is because they are LOOKING FOR IT.  They are literally searching for it and then they are watching it and then they are commenting on it or voting it up or down.

Oh, I also see dog videos.

So I just checked and these were the 10 TikToks that just came up for me...

A dog sleeping on a plane

A Dad and son catching a fish (Not sure if it was a racist hateful fish, it might have been, still had the hook in its mouth)

An ad for hoodies

Cooking video with a guy who makes amazing stuff out of chocolate

Fried rice video (looked really good)

David Spade video (about how nice Adam Sandler is)

NFL Video

Ad for a horror movie

Teaching video about a teacher that hates teaching

Golf video

What are you confused about? Doesn't seem like you're confused.

The algorithms don't tailor content towards what you like, they tailor it to what will keep you on the app.

For the last time, what you see and interact with on Tik Tok does not mean that is everybody's experience with the app. The Chinese Government is still collecting data on you, illegally, and readding all your web traffic and text messages. It just means you are not the target for their nefarious purposes.

In fact, most people who use Tik Tok are just normal people who see cat videos no different than @Archy1221's kids. But what the Chinese are going to figure out, if they haven't already, is that certain people (young or extremely old) are heavily influenced by whatever propaganda slop they're fed. You do not need to weaponize every user of the app, only those that:

1. Are influenced by it.

2. Take extreme political positions because of it.

Most people don't think that vaccines are harmful, for example, but because a small number of extremely stupid people interact with social media - Tik Tok being the worst offender - this is now a partisan battle in the never ending culture war. You probably don't get anti-vaccine videos on your feed because you are not a moron, but a lot of people do. And they get angry. And they vote. The same is true for a number of issues - fluoride in water, genocide in Gaza, drones over New Jersey, there are an endless amount of things that a small but not insignificant number of people just don't have the mental capacity to cope with. All of this, of course, is on top of deeply illegal data harvesting.

@Archy1221

I do think that a large part of the youth backlash was anti-woke stuff, even most woke issues are underwater with registered Democrats! What is not explained is how youth voters, who for 60 years have voted much more left than the general public and are the least politically engaged demographic in the country suddenly voted 43 points to the right compared to 4 years ago. This Demographic just so happens to cite Tik Tok as their primary "news". That kind of thing doesn't happen in a vaccum. Even in the event of a 9/11 type of unifying scenario, I don't know if you'd see that kind of swing.

He can be as partisan as he wants because his horde of barely mentally functioning stupid people are going to support his every move. It doesn't matter if he engages in multiple crypto pump and dump schemes, as long as the libs cry about it that's all that really matter.

Sir, I do not believe the bolded part!  Haha

My point is...anyone finding hateful stuff is literally looking for hateful stuff.  Not that it is not on their but that they are trying to find it and they are watching it.

Yeah, it wasn't just brain fried 16 year olds making that claim. It was people who know a lot more on the subject than you. If it makes you feel better to downgrade genocide to atrocities, have at it. But take comfort that your preferred authoritarian narrator won this particular messaging battle.

I don't want to be completely dismissive, but most of these are left wing NGOs. The left wing progressive class was widely radicalized by this issue - for no real reason - and young dumb people had their brains cooked by social media and decided to stage some of the worst and most unpopular "protests" in recent memory.

I don't disagree. But hateful people are easily radicalized and can be easily manipulated.

A Foreign authoritarian government building data profiles on these people and subjecting them to hours of propaganda each day, experimenting in how extremely volatile they can make that person in ways that are not legal, cannot be monitored or stopped by US authorities, is extremely bad for our country.

Do you use TikTok at all?

It's crazy that Nazi/white supremacy stuff just keeps happening with Trump and his circle. I'll be interested to how they hand wave this one. Although I do think it's more of a bonus to much of his base than it is a problem. I really wonder how much of it is actually their beliefs or more a signal to their supporters to keep them fired up. Maybe a distraction because his supporters don't care and it gets the left angry because they don't like Nazis.

Do you think there's a decent chance that if I search for 'college football' content on TikTok, that I might get fed some hot takes from Stephen A. Smith, Paul Finebaum, Colin Cowherd and Kirk Herbstreit?
