It would be fascinating if politicians never identified with a party and simply told people what they believed in and how that would turn into governance.

They are against regulation to keep our water clean….but…..those darn abortion drugs.

If you're talking about politicians, it's because the odds of actually winning are so significantly less (and nearly impossible in some cases) without the infrastructure and support of the party.

If you're talking about regular old people, it's because grouping ourselves into tribes is one of the most innately human traits that exist.
