Would be cool if we could fill that place up. It's a great game to take your kids to and it's cheap. Nothing better than a slice of pizza on a beautiful spring day at Memorial. Except for a slice of pizza on a beautiful fall day at Memorial. Anyway, I'm doing my part in trying to put asses in the seats and bought 6 tickets. Looking forward to seeing some new faces on D and hopefully seeing some creativity with our younger receiving corps and running backs.
Exactly the reason Bo and TO don't want it televised. The athletic dept saying "we're worried about a competitive advantage" is an obscure way of saying "put your butt in the seat and help us sell the program to recruits visiting. We know you need to see this Spring Game and the recruits need to see a large crowd, c'mon...."
I fully understand this thinking. It is very impressive to see a crazy mob of 60,000+ watching a scrimmage. However, if UNL can get a large crowd AND have it on national television that would impress a lot more than the 10-15 scholarship recruits in attendance. But, will a big crowd show up if it's on TV, especially if it is cold and rainy?
Kinda a "catch 22".
I think most people are overestimating the impact it would have on attendance. So many people seem to say "I'm taking the whole family, because it's cheap, and the only way we can all go." If it's on TV, would some of those people change their minds? Probably. But I highly doubt it's going to affect attendance more than 10%. Plus, schools like Oregon, Alabama, Florida, Florida State, USC, Texas, etc... all have their games televised, and it's basically a three hour informercial for that school.
IMO, a small hit in attendance is worth the fact that we're getting out name out there more for recruits. Hell, on signing day, Nebraska was pretty much nowhere to be found on ESPNU, except when Peat said "No thank you." To not use a giant recruiting tool like this is absolutely crazy.
