That's literally what a majority of the country does right now. The system is fundamentally broken, and it won't change without a major upheaval. The fact that Bernie can do what he does and still fall short everytime speaks volumes.

 
I'm not going to get into the philosophical debate about whether not voting for X is a vote for Y...

But we're 3+ years into this experiment. I feel confident saying if you can even consider voting for Trump at this point you're a s#!tty person and we don't share the same values. My conscience won't even let me vote third party in Nebraska, much less Michigan when we move this fall.  I will be voting for the major party alternative that isn't Trump.

All that said, I hate the two-party system and I wish we had ranked-choice voting so we didn't have to worry about this.

I think that's how some majority of Americans feel overall - many dislike the system but feel they don't have the power or control to do anything about it, so we/they continue to vote along major party lines to feel like we're contributing to a realistically achievable end result.

Most people I meet or talk to dislike the two party system, but when push comes to shove, they feel they have no alternative.

This whole conversation and Bernie's withdrawal makes me feel like teetering on the edge of depression. I didn't agree with a few of Bernie's ideas, but I thought he would give us a push in the right direction to actually moves this country forward in the 21st century (a lot of his supporters are turning out to be Dbags thoug...). In my mind this whole thing circles back to an educational and moral decay in this country, and I don't mean a religious moral decay. Our population is poorly undereducated and too focused on promoting self-profit over the greater good of the nation.

Ehhhhh, not really.

Are there countries that "score higher" yes...

Do most smart people from other countries come to the US...yes

And in the end, most of the US population is about as "normal" as can be...we care about our family and friends...we work decent jobs and enjoy things like sports and movies...we help our neighbor out when they ask to borrow a tool.

The 3rd party vote didn't cost Rs anything with Obama.  In 08 if all 3rd party had gone McCain he would have picked up NC and IN, but still would have lost the EC by 140.  And in 12, all 3rd party votes going R wouldn't have moved any states.

In 16, 3rd party votes could have conceivably moved 7 states from R to D (Mich, Penn, Wisc, Flor, Ariz, NC, Utah) plus Neb 2.
