Taken from the ESPN show, the top 5 Reasons You Can't Blame Frank Solich for his firing.

#5 Carl Crawford - After Crawford didn't come through he had no one else to relie on for QB.

#4 The 2002 Season - going 7-7 starting out ranked #9 to being unranked for the 1st time in forever with a young defense and no true running back or any stars on offense. Losing a heart breaker to 7th ranked Texas by 3 then turning it around in 2003 to a 10-3 season before being fired.

#3 01' Miami - considered one of the greatest college teams ever and one of the best defensive teams ever composed they exposed Nebraska to a one sided game. Causing panic many calling for change and to do away with the option and find a more balanced passing attack.

#2 Jamal Lord - What more can you say he had to use color coordination to call plays off the sidelines. There is a good point that Jammal Lord suffered due to lack of experience from Crouch's play in game situations. Once Crouch left the building Lord rushed for a lot of yards but he just wasn’t the same kind of player. He wasn't the threat Crouch was to hit a home run every time he carried the ball.

#1 Steve Pederson - Fired Solich and started the Billy C era.

Thats what the show was all about, have you ever seen it ? If not what would be some better ones, add on or do a Billy C one.

I thought it was a different idea for the off season, love talking Husker history.

It's a fine topic, but old.

The long and short on Solich was that he was the head coach who oversaw the decline of Husker football due to poor recruiting and an offensive scheme built around a single, albeit talented, player. The proper time to dismiss him would have been after 2002 or not at all. It's hard to axe a coach who the previous season had engineered a title run, but the writing was on the wall. Solich made the right move when he cleaned house and hired a new staff with a young gun like Pelini, but you can't discount the decline in the team which was entirely his fault. I think Solich might have skated by a few more seasons thanks to Pelini, but his firing was an inevitability as far as I can see.

Frank just wasn't head coach material. Davaney is considered an immortal because he retired from coaching, became AD and hired the Legend that is Tom Osborne. TO left the program for politics and Frank had to deal with Pedie on his own. The end of the stick that Frank had to deal with was sharp and dipped in poop.
