i don't know how many of you go to the journal star husker page. however, there is a flat out hilarious blog going on.

it started as what songs you don't want to hear during a sporting event. it quickly turned into what the athletic department should and shouldn't play. THEN it became what type of people annoy you.

it's mostly a :steam about the "bluehairs" that go to games, don't cheer, yell at you when you're stading up in front of them, and leave at the start of the fourth quarter to beat the traffic.

some people are defending them. then again, these same people also think that memorial stadium doesn't need video screens, and the band should play every song. :point

so i ask what are your opinions about the whole experience? should the band play less or more? should the music be tamed or more heavy and powerful. should charley and ethel from weeping water that just show up and sit there for three hours just stay home and stop yelling at you when you take one step to your left or right during the national anthem cause you're standing on someone's foot? :rulez :hmmm

let your opinion be heard. i've been heard a lot on there, now to hear from some people that know what's going on.

p.s. there should be video screens in the stadium, what if your talking to your wife,friend, brother, etc and you miss a big play ( or the start of it, this should never happend, you should keep your eye on the glory, but it happens i'm sure), with the video screens it gives you the oppertunity to catch the replay.

But bare in mind all those useless blue hairs are what made this program succeed. Not the loud and young. They have set in those seats for a long time and give us the only real record we have going. You run them off, the string will end. The game is for all. You do not have to be drunk and loud to enjoy or support your team. Most aren't.

I do not get to go to many home games because I live in California. I never attended Nebraska. But I watch every game. Go to every bowl game and send well over $15000.00 a year to Nebraska and have now for over 25 years. I am a bald blue hair I guess. I want you kids to have all the fun in the world, but I want to enjoy the game when I go to. It takes both of us to make this happen.

Being a retired Marine, I stand at attention when the NA is played. I owe that to the people who have given their lives so you can enjoy this game. You can do as you please, it is a free country. But there are reasons you are free, try to remember that.

I was told by my grandmother many years ago. Respect your elders. I still do.

:yeah great post! :thumbs i couldn't agree with you more, when i go to games i don't get drunk. it's not that i can't right now, cuz i'm only 20, but i don't intend getting beligerantly drunk when i'm of age. The "blue hairs" started the streak and built the great atmosphere that we are able to enjoy now. They have every right to be there and support their team. Plus (no offense to any older fans here) when you get older i imagine the desire to be plastered/loud goes down (i'm not for sure cuz i'm not there yet, and i'm not trying to put any words in anyones mouth). just remember that you should look at it as this is the house the "blue hairs" built, and i'm going to honor and respect that til' i'm gone from this earth, cuz i want people to honor my contributions to the program no matter how little they might be, when i too become a blue hair

 
I agree with the respecting the elders statement. However, some of those people should have some common sense and not go to some of the earlier games in the season. The retired people that sit in air conditioning all day and then hit up a football game in early September when it could hit triple digits in Memorial Stadium is just plan ridiculous. Thank God for the Red Cross being there, as I continue to see them help out people that have fainted or are ill from the warm weather. When people are getting carried out in the first quarter, they need to realize what the problem is and just stay where it is best for their health.

 
I think that there needs to be a good mix. I dont begrudge ANYONE on this planet to experience the marvel that is a nebraska home game, and I see both sides of the argument. I dont think that being drunk and beligerent is a necessary part of being a good fan, but being as loud as it is possible for you to be is. Even my dad, who is 50 years old screams his head off when the opposing team has the ball. I appreciate what the older generation has done for nebraska football, and I ask nothing of them other than doing what is best for your health, as mentioned in a previous post, and being as loud as you can be. I can say the same for the young, who I ask to be respectful of the opposing team as well as your fellow fans. It goes both ways.

 
For those pepole that go to the game and just sit there and do no yelling and leave at the beging of the 4th they should all stay home!!! cuase for one thing is that i know that i yell my lungs off when im at a game and i never ever leave before the end of the game!!!!!!!!

 
There has to be a certain level of respect for your elders...HOWEVER...there needs to be a certain level of realism from the blue hairs. Last year when I attended the Maine game, I was almost upset when we left the game. Not only because the team didn't play all that well, but for the people surrounding me. We were told to not yell by the people in front of us(3 teenage girls). Fine. Whatever. Then when I stand to see a play that was happening in the southwest corner of the endzone, I am told "if we all sit down, we can all see." I had never had the desire to yell at an elderly lady until that moment. I could have understood if we were standing the whole time if someone would get irritated, but that was not the case. What many of these "blue hairs" have meant to this program is invaluable because of their years of dedication and support, but expecting people to not get fired up at a Husker game is ludicrous.

 
i know plenty of old people that go crazy in that stadium. define old? i guess i should say middle aged. I know plenty of middle aged fans that scream and drink more beer pregame than most college kids could forget about.

Regardless of whomever tells you to sit. Just act like your deaf cause your young and love loud crazy music. Thats respectful enough. I repect them by not paying attention to them. If they were giving me life advice I might listen but Memorial Stadium is no place for the quiet and meek. Be that before and after the game.

I am never, never drunk at a game. The glory of the atmosphere needs to be experienced in all of its sobriety so I can remember every ounce of it for I dont get to attend many home games. Never leave before the 4th quarter thats like leaving the church during the invitation are you nuts!!!

An example of this was the Pitt game last year which I was fortunate enough to get tickets to although it was not much of a game. But we needed every fan up until the last second and nothing made me madder than the fans leaving early...but whatever!

I appreciate all Husker Fans but if you happen to have tickets to the game and you want to sit down and not have anyone impeding your view you might want to upgrade those seats to the front row cause I am going to stand yell and maybe through a child threw the air in celebration of the glory that is Husker Football in Lincoln.

I guess I define old as me!! I am 60 and am as loud as most young kids. But I respect what these people have done for the program. Without them there would be a lot less money now and before. They built what you are getting to see. They are Nebraska, not some loud roudy frat boy. These old blue hairs have donated money for years because of their love for the program. Many attended college here and their kids have as well as their grandchildren. Youth sees things in their eyes only. It may not be possible for them to stand, now think forward 30 years and say well I won't go because I can not stand. If you feel that way then your not much of a fan. Leaving early, I do not agree with either. But some leave early out of respect for the younger. Not holding them up in line, trying not to be in the way.

Look at things as they really are. Not just how you think they should be. All of you will be facing those same challenges someday. As much as you hate to face it you will be a blue hair someday, or you will be a blue hairless like me. But the love of the program and the school will keep you coming back until you can't do it any more. My grandfather went to evey home game from 1939 on until his death in 1999. He was a old blue hair who walked with a stroller. Burried with a Nebraska tie. I would guess he donated close to a quarter million dollars to the Ag department in his lifetime not mentioning over 500 acres of land near Auburn.

When the young give as much as those useless blue hairs, then you will have something to complain about, but by then you will be a blue hair. The next chapter please.

I am in better physical shape than most likely 90% on this board even at 60. So I am not concerned about standing or setting. You do what you can.

i thought middle aged was around 60.. your not old until you cant move anymore..
