People are really under the impression that if/when Riley is fired, that we will be able to go get a big name coach?

We fired Solich after a 9-3 season. What top tier coaches knocked down the door to get this job then?

We fired Pelini after a 9-3 season. What top tier coached knocked down the door to get this job then?

We fire Riley after just barely 2 years on the job - you're gonna have a repeat of settling for another coach, rather than getting a top tier hire.

Yep, I said it in another thread, I'm not even sure what I want anymore. People forget what a disaster the Callahan search was. Even then nobody wanted to come here. 

 
We'll be no worse off than we were in 2004, at the very least.

Prospective coaches aren't stupid. They know what Nebraska is. They also know, as everyone does now in hindsight, that Pedersen canning Solich was bulls#!t, and not indicative of anything other than a rogue AD making a bad decision. They also know that despite his 9 win seasons, Bo needed to go. Nobody is holding that against us anymore. If Riley struggles to a losing or barely winning season, they'll know that Riley wasn't the right guy and wasn't good enough. 

None of that, in 2017, screams, "Oh Nebraska has such unrealistic and unreasonable expectations."

 
Because Coaches will want to work with a Great Athletic Director.  Eichorst and Pedeson were far from those. They killed the Athletic Dep't with their dictator ways.  And this trickled all the way down within each and every Athletic Program.  Harvey was the key to that. 

The Husker Culture is still here.  We have to find it and embrace it.  We can win and win big again.  but we do have to open up the checkbooks and hire the right people.  Green and Bounds know what they need to do.  And I believe from everything I hear about them, that they are the guys to get it done!

Well maybe if these players like Mike Riley they will realize his days are numbered and they are now actually playing for his job and the lights will go on and they will start playing well

Riley does what Riley does.  Look at his history and you will know exactly what to expect.  His lack of success doesn't stem from lack of trying.  It's more like lack of ability.

Let's be real clear here - Mike Riley is taking the program to new lows. If that scares off candidates, they were never going to be successful anyway.

It's not solely about Riley. That's short sighted to look at how potential coaches and their agents will look at situations.

You're asking a coach, and his family to uproot, move to Lincoln, to allow their first recruiting class to become seniors? That's the amount of time a coaching staff will be given in this situation? Even more, if you do somewhat succeed in this situation, 9-3 may not even be good enough either to keep your job.

It's easy to say, "well we didn't want them anyway". But the reality is, they are not gonna want us. The same as they have not wanted us the last few times this job popped open.

No, because we weren't actually willing to pay top dollar before and that's why we ended up where we were. In 2014 our ad had his mind made up without even reaching out with an open pocket book. So really we don't know what a big check would bring

Solich firing was a bad deal.

Bo had to go and so does Riley.  Everyone, including coaches knows this.  Money  talks.
