Guy Chamberlin
Heisman Trophy Winner
I'd like to hear the specifics of the case, first. If Scott is legitimately owed a substantial amount of money by the University, he should not be afraid to ask for it. If the University is being unethical as an additional punishment to Frost thinking he won't want to go public, that's on the University. I don't see any evidence at the moment that Scott is being petty.
As for Scott's love of the state? Hard to say. His dad Larry Frost was a notorious ashhole who had a longstanding beef with both UNL and Tom Osborne that pre-dated Scott. When Scott became a big in-state star, Larry got his payback by sending Scott to Stanford instead. When Scott came back to UNL as the prodigal QB, he was generally disliked by the veterans, although the younger players rallied around him in the '97 championship year and spoke more highly of him. Every interview with Scott in the wake of his 2018 hiring sounded like a guy who was pretty happy in Florida -- either staying at UCF or going to Florida -- and the pressure to return sounded a lot more like duty than love. His personal life is only conjecture, but it's no secret Scott was going through some tough stuff his entire time back in Lincoln. If only half the rumors are true -- and I suspect they are -- Scott's head was never fully in the game as was reflected in the record he earned here.
