Three Eagles threatens to sue listeners over email campaign

International Man of Mystery
From the "How to ruin your public image in one easy step" files, Three Eagles Communications has threatened to sue some of its listeners who are upset over the firing of Tim Sheridan.

As you may recall from THIS THREAD, Three Eagles canned Tim of "Tim and The Animal" fame, their former morning radio show and replaced them with Todd & Tyler of Z92 fame. This prompted some listeners to take action, emailing 104.1 sponsors to voice their displeasure.

Hilarity did not ensue:

Local radio company threatens listeners with lawsuits

On Feb. 16, Ted Pool got an email from Sparks Willson Borges Brandt & Johnson, a law firm in Colorado Springs, Colo., representing The Blaze's parent company, Three Eagles Communications. The email said Pool's actions were "tortious" and asked him to "cease and desist from any further contact with Three Eagles' advertisers."

The letter cited three Nebraska Supreme Court cases.

"The extent of the damage which you have caused is not yet known, but Three Eagles intends to hold you responsible for that damage," said the letter signed by attorney David P. Steigerwald.

"I was in shock," said Pool, who provided the Lincoln Journal Star a copy of the email he sent Three Eagles management and Blaze advertisers, as well as the letter he got from Three Eagles attorneys.
The story is well worth reading, and gets into far more detail than I can post here.

I haven't read the emails Pool was sending to Three Eagles advertisers so I can't comment directly, but I can say this - they had better have been quite inflammatory, or I'm done listening to Three Eagles stations. Period.

Wow...that's a pretty heavy-handed way to handle your potential consumers.

It appears that Three Eagles feels they have a large enough slice of the pie that they could care less who they piss off or threaten. And this is some major league asshattery IMO right here:

Gary Buchanan, Three Eagles president and chief operating officer, declined to comment about listener complaints or letters from Three Eagles attorneys, saying "this shouldn't be something (the Journal Star) should be concerned with."
Wow. That is one hell of a d**k comment right there IMO.

I didn't want to pull too much of the article into this thread, but yeah - that comment really caught my eye. That's not ballsy, that's just stupid.

Three Eagles is a worthless Radio company. I know plenty of people who were fired by showing up to work and told they had been fired... no warning.

When they fired Jason Peters and Jeff Wilkerson, it was "show up to work and be told you were fired" show done... shortly after sports station..gone.. then brought back when rumors of the Ticket surfaced...

Place is a joke and this just goes to prove that.... They have horrible management from how they dealt with 1480 ESPN to the morning show on the Blaze....

Gary sings this to himself at night...

Ha! I didn't know that Lincoln had a 'Ticket' sports radio station now. Guess the lil' ole' Ticket in DFW that started it all is doing something right after all...

So, you thought maybe this story was over?

Nah. TEC just doubled down.

Three Eagles provides reason for cease-and-desist letters

In the wake of Wednesday's article, Three Eagles has decided to sever ties with Lincoln Journal Star staff members who appear on their stations.

That's why you didn't hear L. Kent Wolgamott talk about movies Friday morning on KX 96.9 FM or KFRX as he's done for 20-plus years, or me (Jeff Korbelik, the article's author) on KFOR Monday morning dishing on TV happenings or the sports writers previewing the Nebraska football Spring Game on Sportsradio 1480's local talk shows.
Here's a list of TEC stations in the Lincoln area. I'll be removing them from my dial soon:

104.1 The Blaze

106.3 KFRX

92.9 The Eagle

1480 KLMS (AM)

1400 KFOR (AM)

I think there's another one, but I've never listened to it. If anyone knows, help me out.

I can't believe these guys don't realize what a disaster this behavior is. Suing your listeners and severing ties with the local paper because they ran a story on it is beyond childish.

So incredibly stupid...

Management attacks its listeners.. then people who help provide good local feel....

Good luck TEC...

I am assuming the people over at Broadcast house are jumping for joy.

Just saw this, lol. (the lastest developments with the LJS) ...Great move Three Eagles! You guys sure know how to please your listeners!
