And then things really got surreal.

In one of the last spectacles involving a young man who may best be known for what he didn’t do with his opportunities, Collins invited reporters to a scattershot press conference in jail.

He referred to Douglas County District Judge Gary Randall’s sentence of life plus 90 to 110 years as “life plus Star Trek years.” He said prosecutors used a couple of Sammy “the Bull” Gravanos against him as if he were John Gotti.

He said the judge violated his rights by not sequestering the jury. And he said it was a “good possibility” that the drug gangs in California “got” to the jurors deciding his fate.

Referring to himself in third person, he called his sparsely attended trial “a very high-profile case” — “right under” the trial of Roy Ellis in the death of 12-year-old Amber Harris.

He reiterated his stance that he’s no snitch — saying that was part of the reason he left the Nebraska football team as a senior. Collins, a running back, said he took the fall rather than snitch about what he now claims were $1,000-a-month payments from boosters.

I wouldn't be surprised if it were true. There are a lot of crazy fans out there. Having enough money to be able to afford to give a football player $1,000 a month doesn't mean you're wise or have common sense enough to know better.

Without any kind of proof I'm certainly not taking this guy's word for it, but in a general sense, I'm sure this has happened somewhere at some time.

I wouldn't worry too much about this. There's not a lot you can do as an institution to stop such things. The best you can do is to recruit high-character people (and we have to question now why Thunder was recruited based on that), and hope they have enough integrity to decline those offers.

Anyone who thinks this kind of thing isn't going on in every institution is detached from reality. There are, at the least, offers being made to these kids. I'm sure if he wanted to Thunder could disclose several things that would get NU into trouble. Same goes for any other school out there.

 
I saw in the Omaha World Herald that Thunder gets Life in Prison plus something like 110 years. Did they do so there is no chance for parole? A few things that stink is that I'm sure there are critics that are badmouthing the Nebraska program as a whole for an individual act of someone who hasn't been a part of the Cornhuskers for a long time. Also, 1620 making a joke out of this is in bad taste. I guess whatever builds up your ratings. I imagine if he said, "I ain't no snitch", perhaps he wasn't the mastermind, and maybe just maybe he didn't pull the trigger either. Who knows, maybe he wasn't about to rat out (snitch) the others who were there, and didn't get the plea bargin.

We owe those Vols a pat on the back. Without their shenanigans, Thunder would be the lead story in college football right now.

I know one thing. If a booster was giving him money, I would have demanded a complete refund from him. I think his name had more rushing yards than he did.... This guy is completely insane. He thinks the world revolves around HIM and that he was worthy enough to have a booster give him money. This is a complete joke and he is obviously delusional.
