Tiger Wuss withdraws from U.S. open

Tiger Woods to skip US OpenPublished: June 07, 2011 cnnsi.com

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. (AP) — Tiger Woods won't be playing the U.S. Open this year.

Injuries to his left knee and Achilles' are bad enough that Woods decided Tuesday to skip the U.S. Open for the first time since 1994. The Masters is now the only major he has never missed as a pro.

Woods said he strained ligaments in his left knee - the same one that has been operated on four times - hitting a shot out of the pine straw in the third round of the Masters. He described it then as a "minor injury," although it is clearly much more. He said two weeks ago it might have been a mistake to play in The Players Championship, where he had to withdraw after nine holes.

There is no indication when Woods will return.

You really find out how much backbone a guy has when the chips are down. For Woods it turns out, not much.

Really? You're going to call him out for this just three years after he won the US Open in 5 rounds with a broken leg?

Is he changing his name to Woosnam so your just using his new nickname of Woose??

May want to change it to Wuss, which I totally agree with by the way.

I said it after the scandal broke and have said it ever since. He's done being the player he was in the past, and done ever being even remotely close to that level again. He will never regain that. And I thought that just from the scandal, but now with all the injuries it's looking even more unlikely.

It will be a struggle for him to catch Jack now with the crazy good youngsters coming up. If he catches him it will have to be when he gets older and happens to win one late in his career like Jack. There is a deep, deep pool of young talent coming up in the PGA and it's getting fun to watch. Can't wait to see if some of the youngins get a few rivalries going with one another with a little smack once in awhile.

I think that people like you are the reason I still root for Tiger.

BTW, I don't think anyone in my lifetime or yours is going to reach the level he was at in his prime. Whether he catches Jack or not, Tiger in 2000-2001 was the best golfer of all time. Not even remotely close.

Point taken. Correction made.

Tiger Woods was the greatest golfer on the planet a short while ago. It’s likely he will be again before long. He’s struggling a bit right now. But instead of toughing it out, he wusses out.

Despite all the God given talent Tiger was graced with he’s an arrogant, whiney, tightfisted, bad guy. Most of his troubles are of his own making. That’s why Tiger Wuss, er Woods deserves to twist in the wind for a while.

... He's injured right now. If he's interested in winning the US Open, but knows he can't because he's hurt, why the hell would he "tough it out" and risk injuring himself more? That's the dumbest thing I've ever heard. He doesn't need money, he doesn't need anything but 5 more majors, and if he wasn't going to get it at this US Open, why would he play?

"God given talent?" Tiger has been playing golf since he was a toddler, and he's worked his a$$ off ever since then. It's not "God given," he earned everything he has. Besides, it's ridiculous of you to credit his "talent" to "God" while at the same time saying that Tiger's troubles "are of his own making."

And, again, it doesn't matter that he was really good and isn't as good right now. He's not playing because he's hurt and he can't play well - that's why he withdrew from the Players Championship. If you honestly think he's lacking toughness, you need to go back and watch the 2008 US Open. If you don't know why you need to go back and watch the 2008 US Open, you obviously have no friggin clue what you're talking about and are only posting this crap about Tiger because you're the type of person who will rip on celebrities when they mess up in order to make yourself feel better about your own life.

Maybe his injury is keeping him out. Maybe not. We don’t know, do we? The one thing we do know is that his golf game is in the slumps. Tell me, do you think Tiger Wuss would come right out and say he’s withdrawing because his golf game is in the slumps? Or would he tell a white lie and overstate an injury. He has a track record of white lies, you know.

Wow! You really got your panties up in a bunch over what I posted. Sorry if I hurt your tender feelings for Tiger. Okay, let’s follow your logic then: Tiger has no God given talent. But through sheer determination and will power, beginning when he was a wee toddler, he built his talentless little body into the greatest golfer in the history of the world. And it wasn’t his fault that he cheated on his Swedish model wife by porking a dozen cheap bimbos, shattering his family apart in a scandal headlined world wide. I’m not sure who we could possibly pin *that* on, but it couldn’t have been Tiger Wuss’ fault. According to you.

Maybe what you say is true. Or maybe it’s a pathetic weak minded attack intended to pick a fight and get a response from me. The type of thing to be expected from a real life limp d!(k loser who poses as an Internet tough guy. The truth of it is, I bag on guys like Tiger Wuss and Congressman Anthony Weiner because they have it all, they’re on top of the world. And yet they feel a sense of entitlement. Like they’re owed more, are above the rules of decent society, and can cheat and lie to satisfy their own selfish, sordid desires. Sure I bag on celebrities when they expose themselves to be slimy cheating creeps who lack character. But sadly, there are some fans who fawn and gush all over celebrities so much they are content to maintain their feeble, sniveling loyalty to a celebrity even after the guy has been exposed to be a cheating pathetic loser. Like you.

This is way, way out of line. Sure the last sentence dig was too, but Christ, completely attacking someone because they don't share your opinion about Tiger Woods is ridiculous.

Some of us can keep his personal life problems and sense of entitlement chasing skirt in perspective. He's an athlete and celebrity, desperate needy women throw themselves at them. While he's probably a huge slimeball if you are dating or married to him, we aren't, and further we don't really give a crap what he does outside the golf course. It is hard not to respect what he has done in his sport and he definitely isn't a wussy there. He's also really got no reason to withdraw from anything at this point other then a real injury.

Yeah, you’re right. I’m sorry. I didn’t mean to hurt anyone’s tender feelings or anything. After all, what business is it of mine if some feller has a man crush on Tiger Wuss? I think I’ll just quit responding in this thread before I make somebody cry or something. Since I don’t want anyone else to accuse me of being the type of person who rips on someone in order to make me feel better about my own life.

Tiger also has a history of injuries, and it's kinda tough to win the most difficult tournament in golf if you're not at the top of your game. If he was a "wuss" there's simply no way he would have made it this far, and there's absolutely no way in hell that he would have won the 2008 US Open.

I didn't say that his personal problems weren't his fault. I said that you can't pretend that his personal problems are his fault, while his professional successes are some gift from God. You have to take the good with the bad. Either he was responsible for all of it, or none of it. If you ask me, he is completely responsible for his personal troubles, but that doesn't take away from the success he's had on the golf course, and that's what I've always enjoyed watching.

They make mistakes just like normal people do. That's why I don't fawn or gush over celebrities - I know they're human. I don't put them on a pedestal, I just like watching what they do well - whether it's act or play sports or whatever. And I think the reason you bag on them is so you can feel morally superior.

I also am willing to take your response to mean that you DON'T know why you should watch the 2008 US Open, since you didn't mention it. The reason you should watch it is because you're calling Tiger Woods a wuss in a thread about the US Open three years after he won by playing an 18 hole playoff with a BROKEN LEG. That is so far beyond tough, it's one of the greatest exploits in sports history. I didn't call you out because I'm such a huge fan of Tiger Woods that I can't bare to see him criticized. I called you out because the claims you were making are idiotic.
