Time to come home

It was November, 2003, and a certain coach had just returned home from Colorado after leading the Huskers to win No. 9. He was unceremoniously fired by an out of control AD.

This week Colorado visits Lincoln and Coach Frank Solich's team, the Ohio Bobcats, have a bye week.

We need to call Frank and bring him back to Lincoln. I know that Frank meant a lot to Tom and Scott.

Let's recreate the Akron energy by welcoming home a man who gave so much of his time and energy to the Nebraska program.

Come home Frank and receive appreciation you richly deserve!

He has already been invited back.  Not sure if it's been confirmed that he is coming yet.

Isn't the award related visit going to be in December or January. I was just hoping he would be able to come out sooner.

IMO, the problem wasn't that Frank was fired.  The problem was the timing of his firing and the failure to properly replace him. A year sooner would've been the right time and his successor should've been somebody that wasn't going to completely change the culture and program. Of course hindsight is wonderful and it's obvious not firing him at all would've been exceedingly better than what transpired. But sure, bring back Frank the tank and honor him. He did a lot of good things for this program. It wasn't his fault that he wasn't a TO caliber head coach or play caller, not many are.

It would have been better the year before but the 2003 season wasn't really all that great either.  The record looks nice - because of a weak schedule - but we got blown out by all the good teams we played.  Pretty similar to the "improvement" people thought they saw in 2016, IMO.

Failing to hire a suitable replacement doesn't make the original decision wrong.
