TMart and Ameer on Heisman list....

This is, I think, the third straight year Martinez has been placed on one or more of these Heisman watch lists. You can pretty much ignore that as long as he keeps turning the ball over as much as he does.

Still, he fixes that and the defense improves a little, and he could be in the conversation to the very end.

Many fans didn't think he would ever improve his passing from the year before. Those people were pleasantly surprised. Who knows how much he can improve from his Junior to Senior year. It's going to be exciting to see and I do expect the defense to improve in big games.

I'm a little surprised that Ameer is on the list. Not that he isn't worthy of it. But, just surprised.

Not only that ... if he solves those problems the :bigredn: could be THE conversation to the very end ... as I see it.

If Martinez could improve his ball security as much as he improved his throwing motion, he'd be in good shape for a legit Heisman campaign.

We'll need Bo's best year to date for either one to remain in the conversation. Not sure of the last Heisman winner from a 4 loss team. I'm glad they are both in the conversation - says a lot of respect for our O. I am cautiously optimistic that our D will improve - so that should help TM & AA chances.

I think Martinez and Abdullah can both put up the numbers and have the moments necassary for the Heisman run. Unfortunately for them, any chance they have relies almost solely on the defense and how much they improve. Taylor can throw for 300 and rush for a 100 every week with 3-5 tds in each game, but if our D allows us to lose a couple-3 games because it cant keep the opponent under 50, they dont have a prayer.

Great post. I agree

Ready to see what kind of yards Abdullah can put up as the #1 back. Im going with 1,200 yards.

Exactly. A team's overall success plays a significant role in Heisman voting. If our defense stops giving up 50+ points and 650 yards in a game, Martinez has a pretty good shot. And as knapplc said, he also has to stop turning the ball over. Lastly, the team has to win most of their big games, and Martinez has to look good while doing it if he really wants to bolster the campaign. Any team performances reminiscent of tOSU and Wisconsin 2.0 from this last year, and he can kiss the Heisman goodbye.

If he plays like he did this last year, cuts down on the fumbles, and the defense finds it's pulse, I like his chances.
