Today's Presser - Northwestern/Michigan

Rex will play Sat. He'll even look good and fast....until he tweaks his knee again when he gets tackled.

He's got a "tender" knee me thinks, and if he keeps the swelling down and wears a brace, he's at 90% and ready to play within days.

The thing is, if he re-aggravates that tenderness in his knee it get's all swollen and painful real quick.

--

This is probably a 6mo - 1yr playable injury. It'll take that long until slight strain on his knee doesn't inflame it.

Expect to see Rex start, and come out sometime in the first half after getting too much work on the knee.

Rinse, repeat the rest of the season.

PJ had a GREAT game against NW. He had several great run stops--a couple of them were real big hits. I'll be impressed if he can make more plays than he did on Saturday.

Rex didn't practice today.

This is because we have been letting him do what he wanted, play. I am sure he will sit out this game, and possibly the next, to get us ready for the long road ahead of us. His Heisman shot is long gone, and I think that was part of the reason he was hopeful for a speedy recovery. Humble guy for sure, but you couldn't tell me he didn't want that trophy.

From today's Coach's Conference Call:

@B1Gfootball

Next coach on call is NEB's Bo Pelini - rallied to win at NU last weekend, hosts MICH on Saturday night.

Pelini on RB Burkhead - he's a strong-minded kid, not worried about mindset, doesn't let alot of things bother him, he's handled injury well

Pelini on RB Abdullah - really good player, runs hard, inside & outside, can do alot of different things, explosive back

Pelini on #B1G title - don't talk about it daily, our players understand what's out there, we try to keep them focused on getting better.

@ESPN_BigTen

Bo Pelini: Burkhead is a "strong-minded kid." Says he's a little frustrated with health but is handling it well.

Pelini, on whether turnovers are driving him nuts: "Yeah, to say the least."

Pelini: Doesn't feel any extra juice playing Michigan. He's a former Ohio State player.

Pelini says OL has been inconsistent the last couple of weeks. "We've got to pick that up."

P.J. and Stafford are going to HAVE to be good against Michigan. They need to do a lot better job than they did against Ohio St and Braxton Miller.

Taylor Martinez is the leader of this team. Anyone not clued into this yet needs to pay attention.
Yes he is, and Rex was and is the emotional leader of this team. GBR!!!
I believe when the other players see Rex running hard and giving it everything that it motivates them to try harder. Not to take anything away from our other backs but he's a big loss in my opinion.
