Today's Presser

After watching the Bo Pelini show this morning and hearing the report from Bo's visit with the press I have come to some conclusions, either Bo has taken anger management classes, doesn't want to create sound bytes for fire up Wisconsin even more, or Bo and the Huskers have an ace up their sleave. I am probably drinking too much koolaid butI have to say I feel like Nebraska purposly played it simple as to not give anything away before the Big 10 games. Now we will see another whole set of gears, another whole set of plays, our jaws will drop, then we will cheer.
This crap about how we're going to see a whole new offensive gameplan on Saturday is getting tired. Even if you believe that (I don't), how could you possibly be optimistic about it considering that this offense seems to have trouble executing the 'vanilla' gameplans up to this point against a preseason schedule?

Hope springs eternal however, and what I'm clinging to is the fact that this is a young team, and while a young team can make you crazy with flaky performances, they can also look all-world for stretches when things come together. I'm hoping for one of those moments on Saturday.

Huh?

We're averaging over 40 pts a game even with a brand new scheme and OC. Even with our defense on the field most of the game due to not stopping anybody on 3rd downs.

What results would it take for our offense to not be "trouble" to you? A TD every single possession for every single game?
If you do not have the qualitative skills to analyze what you see, instead of simply saying "we scored 40 so things are cool", then fine. I'm not going to waste time arguing with you if you think the offense is a humming machine at this point.

Sadly I'm more impressed with the dynamics on offense than I have been with our defense. Sure our offense is very "streaky", I don't think the line play is very good yet and I think we're going to struggle when are required to grind out 3, 4 6 yards a play rather than get big chunks at a time. But....at least I feel like the attitude of the offense it one that is headed in the right direction with a sense of aggression.

The defense, sure we might show a new front, and a system I've hoped we've practice on well....but there have been too many blown assignments and "deer in the headlight" looks out of our guys in live action. Even if when we've practiced well, we've frozen at time in games on our schemes. Thankfully we've been able to correct a lot of this as the game went on, but what makes you think we'll do better operating something different for the first time against Wiscy? The most alarming thing to me is that it seems that our attitude has changed and this year I haven't ever really felt like we've dictated the offense's play with our attack. We're tentative, or so it seems. Its been too much of a contain. I dare say its almost like the attitudes of offense and defense have switched from last year.
