They were perfectly able to hire him last year, what makes anyone think they would now? This seriously won't ever stop, will it?

If the university was serious about putting a winner out there on the field, they would dump MR after this season. Admit they screwed up, and go get this guy.

I don't understand why we just settle for lose out on a great coach, and endure more mediocre seasons with no direction, and continue to sit in purgatory.

The whole Tom Herman thing is speculation. Not even sure if it rises to the level of a rumor. Certainly not a valid topic about Husker football. Just yet anyway. So I moved to to Rumorville.

The problem is that we already had to buy out Bo's contract, and if we fire Riley we'd have to buy out his, as well. Why he was hired for 5 years to begin with is beyond me. Anyway, the point is that many people think we'll be financially strapped if we fire Riley and have to buy him out (although I personally think that's BS) so the longer we keep him for, the less we'll have to pay off. We can't afford to take the cheap, easy route the next go-round. We had better have the pocketbook open and ready to spend.

My personal belief is that next year POB will be the starter and will show flashes of greatness; the team will show signs of improvement (how could they not?) and that will buy Riley more time. The season following that will be Riley's make-or-break year, and much of it will depend on how POB grows and improves under his and Langsdorf's guidance.

So lets say you get hired at a new high school and get to run your own football program. The team you inherit is pretty weak at most spots and you go 1-8 is it ok to fire you from coaching? Or should you get the opportunity to try and change the culture and weight programs of that school?

IF we don't make a bowl this year, and even if we win 6-7 games next year, i'd be fine with moving on.

Honestly, I don't see the issue with just accepting the bad decision and moving on now because we all know we will be moving on in a year or two from now and will just have to begin the rebuilding process AGAIN. So why not accept the mistake, admit this as a lost season and start rebuilding now.

SE can simply come out and say, "Look folks, I made a mistake, I apologize, but I am not going to allow Nebraska football to be Purdue"

It's like any scandal, you always look so much better in the media if you just come out and admit it first rather then deny deny deny. I'd have so much more respect for the guy if he did come out and admit his mistake and take action, rather then trying to hide this awful wart for 2-3 years and the agree it was a mistake.

The longer we have this, the deeper we dig our hole.

I believe Southern Miss did this a couple years ago with the coach that led them to 0-12. Only thing we can pray for is that USC makes Riley an offer he can't refuse and he takes it. What has happened here has been an absolute train wreck so far.

USC is NOT going to offer Riley. Who in their right mind would hire Riley after the debacle he's created here, and they way he was on the verge of getting run out of Oregon State....USC offered Riley a HC job almost 20 years ago, they realize Riley is now approaching mid 60s and well past his prime. Plus his overall coaching record is 2 games below .500.....................And if Southern Miss did this, I have already forgotten they did such a thing.

Also, I can't think of any other job where you can consistently under perform for 8 weeks and not get talked to or get the risk of losing your job.

Man, if I went to work for 8 straight weeks of just under performing I am sure I would have been talked to several times by management, and probably would have never seen week 8.

Especially your first job with the company.....

Add in a seven figure salary.

"I liked a lot of his drills. And I'll never forget he said, 'Always, always, always make your drills simulate what you're going to see in the game.'

"No offense to [QB guru] George [Whitfield], but you don't see brooms in the game. So, if a kid is having trouble flushing to his right, do everything you can the next week to simulate the scenario that caused him to have problems so you can get it right. Who cares about the cones and the bags? If it simulates to what the kid is feeling on a Saturday, then you've got a good drill."

thanks for finding the specific. I was listening on the radio. Not shocked i wasnt 100% on it. But you get my drift. I dont think Langsdorf is a hack.

So first of all, HS and Div 1 college ball is apples to oranges.

Second, NU was a 9-4 team that is now 3-6. Hardly an environment where the coach inherited horrible ball players.
