Tommie Frazier honor

kramer

Starter
Tommie Frazier keeps bringing home the honors.

10. Michael Vick, Virginia Tech

9. Vinny Testaverde, Miami

8. Matt Leinart, USC

7. Jamelle Holieway, Oklahoma

6. Ty Detmer, BYU

5. Peyton Manning, Tennessee

4. Doug Flutie, Boston College

3. Danny Wuerffel, Florida

2. Chris Weinke, Florida State

1. Tommie Frazier, Nebraska

He led the Huskers to two national titles (1994-95) and threw for 43 touchdowns and ran for 36, which seems as good a definition of option quarterback as any Merriam-Webster might devise. Frazier became known for his toughness, both in refusing to be tackled and in refusing to lose. Finally, he dragged Nebraska out of a rut and put them on the road to coach Tom Osborne's greatest successes.

I am surprised that Steve McNair or Andre Ware wasn't on the list. I hope it wasn't because they didn't play at a large enough school.

I never get tired of talking about Tommie. Just keep posting it.

Weinke number 2?????? Not even close.

Andre Ware made an absolutely brilliant comment when Crouch was trying to for the Heisman. He wouldn't vote for Crouch because his tema wasn't undefeated. AAAAAAhhhhhh yeah ..ok...Andre you go undefeated.

The thing is, give Crouch 1) a Natty Champ - which he came very close to getting - 2) multiple All-american teammates - which would have helped him get #1, 3) a blood clot, and 4) a highlight with 10 candy asses trying to wrist tackle him as he runs to a 75 yd TD, and Tommie's name is replaced with Erics.

Blackshirt, you are right, Frazier did have more help. I dunno, both were awesome, I think Crouch's indecision in the pros has left a sour taste in the mouth of the writers that make up these lists.

How do you put any of these guys ahead of Leinart? He has won 2 NC, and he's won the Heisman. None of the guys ahead of him have done this much. A couple in front of him have won one NC and the Heisman, and Frazier has 2 NC. However, none have accomplished as much or more. Also, he's coming back for his 3rd NC and second shot at a Heisman. Maybe it's just because he's the new kid on the block, but I can't see how you put any of these guys ahead Leinart.

What no Ken Dorsey? He won a NC and played for another. Where's Jason White he won the Heisman and choked in two NC games. Timmy Chang broke Detmers record so he should be on here also.

If USC wins another NC next year and Leinert has another good year he will jump everyone. Nothing against him, but any of these pro style QBs on this list could do what he is doing with the talent he has around him.IMO Except maybe Manning because he would of choked in the big game like he always does.

Amazing, simply amazing. You slammed the only guy in the top 10 that has ever done anything in the pro's except for maybe Vick. Manning is hands down the best NFL player on the list of top 10 QB's. Hell, most are saying he's the best QB to ever play the game. I don't know where it comes from, but man you have some warped views.

Most people said Elway was a choke artist until he completely dominated the NFL when TD was added into the equation. Dan Marino was a great QB who never won it all because he had no defense. The Colts probably won't win the Superbowl this year, but it will be because they have no defense. If you want to talk about choke artists, you have to look at players who had all kinds of talent and still found a way to lose. If you're looking for one of those players, look no further than Kordell Stewart!

That's great and all, but I don't think this list is soley based on who did great in the NFL. Or based on that at all.

Exactly, the list was of the best COLLEGE quarterbacks. If you remember correctly, Manning NEVER beat Florida in his 4 years. I would say that is kind of a choke artist, especially when you have a great team around you. They won the national title the year after he left with Tee Martin. Every other quarterback on that list has won at least one of the big games in college with the exception being Manning and Vick. I don't know where your rant came from Junior, the subject wasn't pro football.

I could be wrong, but I don't believe Testaverde won a big game. Sure he won a heisman, but he got his a$$ handed to him by Penn State in the NC game. What big game did Detmer ever win other than the Miami game which there is still a lot of controversy over as to if that was a fixed game or not?

My rant comes from calling a guy a choke artist when he didn't have the best team around him in order to win. A guy like Kordell Stewart in college and pros had the best talent around him and still found a way to lose. In fact, Colorado had I believe 8 first rounders and Kordell still found a way to lose to NU. Jim Kelley never won a Superbowl, but he did make it to 5. Does this make him a choke artist? I say no because he didn't have the team around him that he needed to succeed. A lot of that Tennessee team that lost to Florida 4 times was young. The RB's were young and were a vital part of the team the next year when Tennessee did win it all.

I also have some problems with the list. Tommie for all practical matters was not the QB that led us to the 94 NC. He only played in what 5 of the games? He never won the Heisman, and he never had a 1000/1000 season. Statistically, Tommie wasn't really that great of a QB. And he's #1? Granted, Frazier was a great QB for NU and did help bring us back on top. However, I'm unwilling to call him the greatest collegiate QB ever because IMO he didn't do enough himself to be called that.

Yeah Jammal Lewis was terrible. I believe in 1997 they had 8-10 All-Sec players. That is a bunch of non-talented kids. Sorry when you come back for your Senior year to beat Florida and don't get it done for the 4th year in a row what does that make you. Until Peyton steps up in a big game he is a choker. The difference between Elway, Marino, Kelly, and Manning is as of today those first three still won AFC Championships. Anyway I thought the list had to do with College Football.

Too bad that we will never see another player like him as long as cally is in Lincoln.

Yeah, who wants those s****y option qbs anyhow? NU just won 3 NC with them in the past 10 years.

And who wants a sh*#@y Pro-Style QB like Beck or Taylor. Crappy USC only won back-to-back titles and OU played for back-to-back titles the last 2 years with one of those.

Dang, if OU would have had an option QB, they may have won the NC the past 4 years in a row!!!!!! :thumbs
