I've liked Tommie the few times I've meet him and he's gone out of his way to help my wife arrange it so a special fan got a wonderful gift. In those moments he was humble and compassionate. That being said, I don't like most former players as analysts. There are very few who can do the job well and actually evolve beyond their own playing days and know what the hell is actually being asked today. Jason Peters is a fine example of garbage getting air time because he was a player. If he was just a guy off the street . . no one would listen to him.Tommie as a QB - like.
Tommie as an analyst - not so much like.
Damon Benning is another former Husker who gives weekly analysis on Unsportsmanlike Conduct that I don't really care for. I think what turns me off with some of the former players has less to do with the substance of their analysis, and more to do with their tone.I've liked Tommie the few times I've meet him and he's gone out of his way to help my wife arrange it so a special fan got a wonderful gift. Must have missed those shows... I've only caught him a few times doing analysis after games, and each of those times it felt to me like the same kind of kneejerk reaction that you'll see on message boards or twitter. Maybe I've missed the better broadcasts though.Bemnnig is one guy who knows what is really going on. He often goes to practice and/or talks with the coaches and people in the department. I value his opening very much and he's often the first to know what's actually happening. He's been a good source of information to many people when others don't have access.
