Top 5 All-Time B1G Running Backs

Big 12's official webpage doesn't list any "all time records". They only have yearly stats going back to 1996. So I am not sure what the Big 12 considers in their records books.

I like your logic, Guy. However, I think you can make a distinct here. Nebraska resided in the Big 8 when Rozier played. That conference subsequently expanded and renamed itself as the Big 12. I see that as different from the later move of Nebraska from the Big 12 conference to an entirely different conference in the Big 10.

When the Big 8 renamed itself the Big 12, it remained the same conference or at least retained its essence, so all Big 8 records and former players would be admonished with the Big 12 title.

However, when Nebraska decided to move to a brand new title with no prior affiliation, no record or former player should be relabeled under the new conference but should remain with the team and former conference.
Doesn't work that way and for good reason.

A conference you are no longer part of isn't going to promote your history.

Most fans aren't paying attention ot old conference lists, shows etc. They pay attention to and compare themselves against the conference they are in presently so those are where those comparisons belong.
Well the illogic works both ways.

The only reason to compile all-time records is because people like to compare them. If you care enough to compare Big 10 records, you'd care that Nebraska, Maryland, Rutgers and some Penn State players never played a snap in the Big 10. Which seems to be the whole point of the exercise.

I totally get why a conference wouldn't want to promote a team and players who left, but then again, this is history. You don't get to rewrite it. And by the same token, I don't think most fans would pay attention to or be bothered by the fact that one of the Big 12's all-time rushing greats Mike Rozier played for a team that changed conferences 25 years later.

Because the records were set in the Big 8/12 makes them Big 8/12 records. That would make Ricky Williams a peer of Mike Rozier, but at least that makes more sense.

Dayne held up under all those carries when the defense was keying on him, and still made yards, carrying his team. That IS worth mentioning...

...on the other hand, Lawrence Phillips or Mike Rozier are being penalized because they would get a crease and rip off a single run of 60-70 yards for a TD while Dayne would have to make eleven or so runs to get that same TD. Also, Rozier and Phillips were watching the backups for most of the second half in a lot of Nebraska games.
