Gotcha. When I thought depth chart I was thinking 1> 2, not strictly numerical.No. 1.5 < 2. It doesn't sound like Beck is on the first team depth chart yet, or there is any definition beyond 2. Maybe someone can clarify.So Beck's like, #1.5?

Just a quick note from Saturday morning’s practice … highly-touted running back recruit Leon Jackson was practicing at free safety for the first time in fall camp. Safeties coach Bill Busch wouldn’t call the move permanent but did say Jackson would get a good look at safety. Jackson also is a candidate to return kicks, Busch said.
-Jackson will be available to speak to the media on Wednesday
-Jordan isn’t in camp yet (he’s not part of the preseason 105-man roster) which means we probably won’t see him until Aug. 22, when school starts and all players report

It was an interesting debut as the Huskers tried the freshman I-back at free safety in two workouts at Cook Pavilion.
"It's kind of hard for him right now, playing offense and coming over to defense late in fall camp," Husker strong safety Daniel Bullocks said. "He's got a lot of things to learn. He's got skills to do it, it's just going to take time."
Jackson is among five scholarship I-backs in NU's preseason camp. But out of the three freshmen at the position, the 6-foot-2, 210-pounder from Pasco, Wash., is considered the one versatile enough to play elsewhere.
In fact, Jackson starred at safety in the U.S. Army All-America game in January.
"We're moving him around trying to get him to learn some new things," junior free safety Andrew Shanle said. "He's very athletic; everyone knows that. He's capable of playing a lot of positions, so we're trying to see what he can do."
Shanle is considered No. 1 at free safety, followed by Blake Tiedtke, as the Huskers try to replace Josh Bullocks. It's not clear if any move by Jackson would be permanent.
But Daniel Bullocks said it looked like Jackson was happy to try it on Saturday.
"He just said he wants to play," Bullocks said. "That's his biggest thing, to fit in wherever he can right now."

BROTHERS ADAPTING: Sophomore Titus Brothers, the cornerback who knocked down the potential game-tying pass last year at Pittsburgh on the game's final play, is playing strong safety behind Daniel Bullocks and Shane Siegel. "So far, it's been going pretty well," said the 5-foot-11, 190-pound Brothers. "I've been picking it up pretty good. The first couple of days were kind of new." Busch commended Brothers for his work and says he's adapting well. He said Brothers works in the nickel package in certain situations.
NICKEL BACK: Speaking of nickel backs, Phil Elmassian said whoever plays the third cornerback position won't necessarily be the team's third-best cornerback. "You don't want to put your third-string guy in the nickel," said Elmassian, the cornerbacks coach. "You want your best 11 out there when we're in nickel." That means guys like Brothers, Shanle or Blake Tiedtke could be the main nickel back. Of course, that doesn't always rule out a guy like Tierre Green, either. Green is currently battling Cortney Grixby and Zack Bowman for a starting cornerback spot.
UP IN AIR: Terrence Nunn, Tiedtke and Grixby are in the lead pack of players competing for the starting punt return job, said receivers coach Ted Gilmore, who oversees punt returners. He said coaches will continue to chart practices until the week of the opener before determining the starter. Meanwhile, nearly a dozen players are competing to handle kickoff return duties, said coach Bill Callahan. Also, Busch said Leon Jackson and Robert Rands, both true freshmen, are getting looks at returning kicks.
PRACTICE REPORT: Saturday marked the first of four scheduled two-a-day practices for the Huskers. The team worked out indoors in the morning and returned to Cook Pavilion in the afternoon. Callahan said there was a "competitive spirit" during the morning scrimmage. "I can't even begin to tell you how many guys (stood out)," he said. "Our defense played well on all three levels, secondary, linebackers, defensive line."
SNAP TIME: Quarterback Zac Taylor and backup center Greg Austin spent about 25 minutes after the morning practice taking snaps. Callahan said it wasn't because of any center-exchange problems. "We're just looking at a different technique," Callahan said. "I'm just trying to get our guys comfortable with a different technique than what Zac's been comfortable with."
INJURY REPORT: Defensive lineman Ola Dagunduro (ankle) was wearing a walking boot and using crutches Saturday afternoon. Also, Callahan said offensive lineman Lydon Murtha, who had offseason shoulder surgery, isn't expected back at full speed until early September. Running back Brandon Jackson, who also had shoulder surgery, is a bit further along in his recovery and should be at full speed by Aug. 26 or 27. Jackson currently is practicing but wearing a no-contact green jersey. Siegel and Lance Brandenburgh were also sidelined with what appeared to be minor injuries.
ETC.: Brian Hohlen, a tight end from Adams Central High School in Hastings, has transferred to UNO. ... Fan photo day is Saturday from 10 to 11:30 a.m. at Memorial Stadium. ... The Huskers have today off and return to practice Monday with another two-a-day session.

Coach pleased with workouts
Nebraska launched two-a-days on Saturday but wet conditions forced the team into Cook Pavilion.
The morning practice lasted two-and-a-half hours and the afternoon session ran two hours.
The morning practice included more than 80 plays of live scrimmage work and the performance left Head Coach Bill Callahan pleased with his team’s effort.
“We had good work this morning,” Callahan said. “Everybody came out today and challenged each other. There was a good competitive spirit on the field. I was pleased with the way we did our business today.”
Callahan said he was pleased with the play of all three areas of the defense: the defensive line, linebackers and secondary. He also said he is pleased with the work ethic of his team after the completion of 10 practices.
After the physical scrimmage and long morning practice the Huskers worked out in sweat clothes in the afternoon. The Huskers’ second scheduled off day falls on Sunday, before Nebraska returns to the practice field for two workouts on Monday.
One player missing from the morning practice was senior linebacker Adam Ickes, who took part in summer commencement exercises on Saturday morning at the Bob Devaney Sports Center. Ickes returned to practice in the afternoon, sporting a yellow practice jersey as a reward for his outstanding work on special teams in Friday’s practice
