Transfer Portal 2026

Not sure of the actual numbers, but OL seems like it always has the least amount of guys that transfer. My theory is that O-linemen are the most "normal" guys on the team. As long as they are appreciated by their coach/team/QB, have a good set of weights to push around, and get good food at the training table, they are happy.

This is how I picture a normal O-lineman thinking when it comes to the portal: "Sure that other team might give me an extra $40k, but all of my stuff is here and moving really sucks. I think I will just stay."

Think you missed a zero. Solid O-line are demanding pretty good money in the portal now.

I mean ..... we're currently starting two transfers on the OL....

You'd pay more for a good LT than any other position save for QB. That isn't just our need, it's the need of pretty much every team at every level. @Red Five's suggestion that O-linemen are just gonna stick around is, um, not realistic.

This is the NIL hierarchy as Rhule just described it in his last podcast:

1. QB
2. OT
3. Pass rusher
4. Shutdown corner
5. WR
6. DT
7. RB

And Rhule also recently said (and I’m paraphrasing), “we need to find our 2nd RB. Some teams just flat out put more than we could’ve into that position, not to disrespect our guys, because I love our guys…but we can’t go after some of the players we need.”

Everyone wants the best OT and pass rusher.
The question I’m up serving…if we find a quality kid who has spent 2 yrs in the program, then has a breakout year…can we keep our own development player at RB, DE, or OT? I think Rhule is trying his damned hardest to find real quality recruits and keep them, but also scour the Portal to plug holes.

It’s a sad state of affairs when E Johnson went to the portal and came back after $$ but we don’t have a good backup. (But I don’t blame EJ, he should get it, and he’s been above average proving his worth). It sucks we got a former 5* from Alabama (I’m sure he’s getting paid) who commits at least 2 dumbass penalties a game. It’s awesome we got Nwarnie (probs getting paid nice), but will he stay all 3 yrs? Or will these guys go grab a bag again?

First time in my life I actually feel bad for entire coaching staffs who have to recruit their own players, even tho the coaches make collectively MILLIONS of dollars.

Leave it up to an 18-20yr old to make a good decision, let alone their delusional parents. How do they keep a roster, let alone the ones they have developed intact to make improvements every year, when every idiot 20yr old thinks they should get paid first, then play. Or be a starter and get paid way more than they are worth?
I do not envy these coaches for the time since like 2002 when coaches salaries ballooned.
