I believe this to be something that will significantly elevate NU over the next 5 years, barring on-field improvement. 
 

Are Clemson, Bama, and others using the NIL to their advantages like Nebraska appears to be doing? If not to the same degree, then they’ll continue their under the table methods while Nebraska and other schools show that they are a business model, not a poacher. It’s fantastic for Nebraska that they are embracing this. 
 

For your other comments, I think there is also an issue not with just your teammate, but also other student athletes on campus who put in as much work and effort with less reward and opportunity than hoops and football players. Different set of standards differentiate revenue producing and non-revenue producing sports. Case in point is how vball and women’s hoops tournaments were treated.

I hear you. I see articles and comments all the time about how "unfair" it is that the biggest womans bball star makes a tiny fraction of what Lebron makes.

Lets say Adrian lights it up and makes $300K- while Cam Jurgens makes $2k or Lexi makes $5k. Stuff like that is going to happen when you allow capitalism into amateur athletics. Supply and demand is what it is, people vote with their feet and dollars. Now if Adrian is a true socialist- he would make sure to spread his compensation around to all of his teammates- or require others to pony up to equal things out- which seems more plausible. LOL.

Lexi is making more than $5k. But all in all, I don't think most athletes are going to be bothered by what other athletes at their school make. It might drive them to push for their sports to get more exposure (which they're probably already doing), but I think your average dude on the wrestling team understands why Martinez is going to make a ton more, even if that sucks.

It will bother athletes to see what comparable players make at other schools though. Whoever wins the Volleyball POY next years would probably make significantly less than Lexi Sun. Some really good QBs are never going to make as much as lesser QBs at schools like Nebraska, Notre Dame, USC, etc. Be interesting to see how that plays out - I am glad athletes will be able to earn for themselves, there just isn't a perfect system.

 It was a PURELY hypothetical example. 

Yes will be interesting how some of the SJW player types use their money for themselves or spread it around to all their fellow teammates or other sport team athletes. Instead of telling others what to do- they could lead by example and walk the walk instead of talking the talk of virtue signaling and shaming others. Will be interesting.

 There have been teams that have caught "lightning in a bottle" and used an influx of talent  to parley into a season or two where said team is pretty competitive. 

If all the bottom dwellers get further depleted of any talent they do have- what kind of hope does that give their fans? Year after year of bottom dwelling with zero hope ever will dwindle the number of teams playing DI college football and hurts the games national appeal and draw.

So because there is sometimes a Cinderella story once a decade student athletes shouldn't have one free transfer without having to sit out a year and a tool that allows them to easily contact interested teams? Do coaches have to stay at a job as long as they're under contract? No. Are coaches forced to sit out a year at they're new job? No. Are coaches not allowed to accept a job at a school in the same conference? No. 

The sport is changing and the schools that are consistently successful will continue to be and the teams that suck every year will continue suck.

At the end of the day, this free agency allowing the rich and powerful successful teams to poach the best players off of all but a handful of like programs will hurt the game immensely. 

You are a fan of a team that has success on an occasion where they catch lighting in a bottle. Now with that scenario being nearly impossible and if it does happen it only lasts for one season. How long does that program survive? They only get worse, then they disband. 

That isnt good for the game. College players commitment is for 4 years- not the same for a coach- you cant expect a coach to have a lifetime commitment to a school. Maybe something where when the coach leaves- the player can too- that makes sense. This highest bidder poaching with immediate eligibility thing makes the college game even seedier- not a fan. 

 
I'm on both sides of this.  I want the players to earn money for their likeness and such, but I also believe there has to be a separation from endorsement style deals and what the college can "pay"

There is a reason why there are salary caps in all major professional sports.  BUT that doesn't stop a Lebron, or an Aaron Rodgers from earning millions of dollars in endorsements.  But they will only get the same max salary deal from any team in the league.  Does that make sense?

I am saddened by the direction of the collegiate game.  Before too long there will be collective bargaining agreements (with unionized student athletes in conferences), luxury taxes for the blue blood programs, and player contracts.  I just hope the players negotiate for platinum health insurance,  paid sick leave, and pension benefits.  I look forward to the ESPN insider special on that; a real entertainment gem!

While folks will still enjoy the game of football, there is no doubt that a significant disconnect will emerge between the student athletes and the student body, alumni and fans that support them.  Several of the star players will be making more at 18 and 19 than fans and alumni paying the ticket prices!
