Transfer Portal?

Besides being generally disillusioned with the transfer portal and what it’s doing to the sport, my larger concern is how thorough Frost and company are being on vetting these recruits. We seem to be getting more talent to sign but we’re also losing more talent due to unrealistic expectations of players and what seems to be a lack of commitment and work ethic. Maybe it’s just the way things are today and the portal exacerbates the problem but dang, figure some of these guys out before they’re on campus wasting our time and resources.
I think we’re getting better athletes but maybe more marginal students.

Or Lincoln sucks when your not winning.

Was a Husker then transferred to Maryland and now also looking for a new home.

Expect to see Branson Yager in the portal soon apparently. Reach but cost us a scholarship.

all of this poaching seems bad for everyone involved.

look at Georgia, looks like A&M may have raided some of their kids?

They aint come here to play school. But it would be nice if they stuck around and played the foosball.

I would guess that Lincoln is not nearly as bad as your typical SEC school when it comes to not winning.
Baton Rouge is an arm pit, but it’s warm

Gainesville is close to beaches and it’s warm

Tuscaloosa is, I’m actually not sure, but it’s warm

Auburn the same

Knoxville is nice, and has that nice arid mountain climate

Atlanta is an arm put, but it big and warm

College Station is Hicksville, but warm

Arkansas, sucks. Everyone hates it

South Carolina, warm with beaches close

The Mississippi’s, warm and smooth southern

it’s nicer to not win when the girls don’t wear clothes

Ahem. Gainesville is a swamp, and like 3+ hours from any real beaches.  :P

I've actually always thought, as a football player, I would hate playing in the south.  Imagine how blistering hot most of their games are. Meanwhile, in reality, very few games in Lincoln are extremely cold.

This appears to be the prevailing sentiment around the webs. I would assume many coaches feel the same, and he's made himself untouchable by a lot of programs with this stunt.

Yep.  OK, kids want to be able to transfer much easier and move from program to program.  Fine, if you want go that route, go for it.  But, that doesn't change how coaches and programs view a kid that does that.

This is no different than in the real world when looking for a job.  Fine, switch jobs if you want to.  But, when someone applies for a job and on their resume it's clear they have jumped from job to job, that's a pretty big red flag.

Without derailing the thread too much, it depends on the industry.  For some jobs, a shaky work history is definitely a red flag, for others (like tech for instance) it's pretty acceptable to jump around quite a bit.  Like everything, it ultimately boils down to how talented your are.

I struggle getting too upset with an 18-20 year old for being wishy washy on school…esp if they don’t have parents/strong adult figures to steady them.   My father was a college basketball coach and over his 20+ year career I cant tell you how many times he had kids come in and were quite flakey (and almost certainly would have transferred in todays climate) who by the end of their college career had matured immensely and went on to have wildly successful professional(not pro basketball) careers.  An 18 y/o may be an adult but they are very rarely mature.
