TRUE Fans...

Well said...One of my friends who is a former player and does media work for the Huskers is being scrutinized because he gave his HONEST opinion in the public eye. The University is very angry with him and has even asked that he be fired from his position. He simply stated that as a former player and Husker fan that he's dissapointed with how this team cannot come together and on top of that embarrassed for the players themselves.

It seems to me that as a journalist that we should want EXACTLY that, very objective and full coverage. Not one-sided, shoveling Husker BS down our throat as coach C and Stevie P want us to all believe. Yet the University is angry and wants him canned for doing his job because what he said was honest??? Maybe the University wants a bunch of us to just accept everything that happens and be happy no matter what. Sorry, not gonna happen.

If any of us did the mediocre job at our work that these two have done in their tenures, we'd be fired quicker than you can say Kevin Cosgrove. Interesting that in this college football world, apparently the rules change. With that being said, I've heard some interesting grumblings from a few connections. These rumors have a man with the initials T.O. being discussed as taking over as the athletic director sooner rather than later. I know for a fact that the numbers 2 and 3 people behind Pederson have QUIT and the University is having some problems keeping people behind Stevie Poo as they don't want to work for/with him anymore. Apparently he has a large ego, tough to believe huh??? :)
This honest opinion was a breath of fresh air compared to hearing the play-by-play guy telling me at least half a dozen times during the ISU game that the slant pass is just impossible to defend - wow, really, then why doesn't eveyone just throw slant passes all day long? That guy is so far up the University's a$$ you don't know where they end and he begins. I FULLY support your friend (if he really is) and if he does lose his job over this, I WILL be sending letters.

Absolutely true. And by the way, in case the originator of this thread has lost perspective, 4-2 is the only stat that matters in the end. IT IS WHY THEY PLAY.
Is that TRULY what you believe? Then whether you've been a fan since the 60's or the 90's you are naive. If our overall record in a 10 year span is 80-40 (66%) are you happy with that? Sure....sounds acceptable....but what if NOT ONE of those wins is over a higher ranked opponent. What if NOT ONE of those wins is over a ranked opponent period? 4-2 is NOT the only stat the matters. 3 of the 4 wins are against 3 of the WORST teams in college football.

TRUE FANS - This has generated a lot of discussions.

If my kid was getting As and Bs in school for many years, I would attribute it to talent and good teachers. If my kid started getting Cs and Ds, I know there is a problem, and not in the talent department.

But, do you think I would stand by and 'Cheer' because my kid was just 'Passing'. HE double-hockey sticks NO!

I would let the administration and teachers know I was NOT HAPPY.

That is what a true parent does - look out for the best interest of their family. That is the same thing a TRUE HUSKER FAN is doing. Just because the team is 'Winning' (passing grade) doesn't mean I have to support the coach and AD, in fact just the opposite....

So call me what you will, but I will not sit idly by while the team and fans are shortchanged by poor coaching and an AD that gives praises and RAISES for this below-mediocrity performance.

I will continue to voice my concern and demand a change!

My only definition of a "true fan" is cheering for your team to win, no matter how bad things look. Sorry, but anyone who hopes their team loses, for whatever reason, isn't a fan anymore.

:yeah

The ones that bother me are the extreamists on either side of the issue. For someone to say "there are no problems we just need to give them more time" Well you need to walk into reality and see that something needs changed and the problems need fixed.

But on the other hand the people that all they do is post doom and gloom, they need to do the same. There is still hope for this team and program. Yes some changes need to be made but I think this ship can be righted with out firing the entire staff including the waterboy.

We are all fans in our own way and we should not and do not have the right to say "you are not a true fan" because you express what you feel.

After reading the numerous "Hey....we're 4-2" and "You aren't a TRUE fan if..." comments I had to get this off my chest. I originally posted it in another thread, but thought it was worthy of a new one. Take what you want from it:

A "TRUE" Husker fan's Christmas list:

-A new #7 Jersey (there will be a good one again someday right???)

-A new pair of red-tinted sunglasses

-A set of red "N" horse blinders

-A falls supply of cherry Kool-Aid

-A set of earplugs so I don't have to listen to reality

"And a Partridge in a Pear tree." dedhoarse

So don't question my 26 years of loyalty and appreciation of this team. I've grown up looking forward to every fall, dealt with the highs and lows, supported AND questioned many things that have been done throughout the years. If you think I am wrong then YOU are not the TRUE Husker fan. You don't want to deal with the problems. You only want 'everyone to get along'. We will all still watch games this season. Sit side by side in the stands and chat on the board. But don't tell me I'm 'flamer' 'bandwagoner' or whatever else you think.

In my eyes I am the one who is a TRUE Husker fan.
Well thank God you're really proud of yourself...I'll sleep better tonight now. :hmmph

If you have children can you only be a TRUE parent if you always/only see the good in your children??? Do you ignore things like learning disabilities, attitude problems or things like drugs (heaven forbid any parent has to deal with it). No you are a TRUE parent if you see/recognize and discuss the problems and make changes if necessary WHILE STILL supporting your children.
:thumbs :yeah :box
A true parent doesn't quit or crap on their children either. Glad you're not a parent of mine. I don't know if I could handle all of your support.

Sorry. I must have missed where I said that I was quitting or crapping on kids or the team. Let me go back and re-read.....nope looks like I never approached saying that. But good attempt at trying to make me look like a 'bad' person. Read before you reply. It's how a thread works.
