Trump’s Accomplishments…at levels never seen before (2025 version)

if i were to use the elon salute as my avatar and i claim it is because my heart goes out to all huskerboard members....what would happen?
You already know the answer to that question because you also already know that's not the same thing, but nice try.

Your right what Elon did was way worse because he is one of the most famous people in the world on a huge stage. He knew exactly what he was doing and he did it twice. If it quacks like a duck, which he was promoting this stuff long before the inauguration, and walks like a duck, it's probably a duck.

I don't think it's as uncommon or diabolical as some on the left would have us believe.

I've seen a few clips over the weekend of prominent Democrats previously having done very similar movements, including Kamala Harris and Elizabeth Warren. They really didn't seem all that substantially different from what Elon did, and that's not defending Elon - it was a dumbass thing to do - but it feels to me like it is very much being blown way overboard because of who he is and the party he supports.

Also, the Anti-Defamation League, who most commonly and publicly admonishes anti-Semitic situations, came out and said they didn't think it was a Nazi salute and was instead just an 'awkward gesture in a moment of enthusiasm.'

That's pretty generous of you, but the Kamala Harris, Obama and Elizabeth Warren "gotcha!" salutes are still frame captures that could be created for anyone who has ever waved. Elon Musk was a full-fleged all-eyes-on-me video moment, with a chest tap wind up and 45 degree follow through that he chose to perform twice.  He knew exactly what he was doing. If he didn't and it simply came to him naturally.....same difference.

I don't think the ADL or self-avowed Nazi's ever thought Obama, Harris, or Warren were sending out a dog whistle confirming their white nationalist leanings.

But America's extreme right definitely thought Musk was playing to them and shared his....uhm....."enthusiasm"

Of course it's possible that the opposition left is making too big a deal over Elon just being Elon. He is a rascal, you know. But it can be diabolical at the same time, especially when the autocratic hammer is coming down on an hourly basis.

elon did it and it's passed off as an innocent act.
And the ADL agreed. I think two things can be true at once - Elon did something stupid, but it's also not what some are making it out to be. I think it's the grander context of the situation, and not the isolated movement, that is worthy of more discussion and criticism.

but anyone else not connected to MAGA would be punished for that s#!t.
This is not a trolling question: were Warren and Harris punished when they made similar movements and were captured on video? There were a couple of other Democratic politicians I saw as well in video footage over the weekend but unfortunately can't remember the names to the faces.

I mean this with no disrespect, but your anecdotal takes often miss the larger point by a good margin.

There's a good case to be made for regional and fast-food adjustments to the minimum wage, but 75% of the employees at Wal-Mart, Target, and Hy-Vee are over 20 and presumably paying rent. More than a few trying to raise their own kids on that salary. Given the low-wage turnover, these are often the only available jobs. Rich kids getting $18/hour at jobs they don't want or need isn't really driving this issue.

Also, record profits for many of these same businesses under the cover of inflation. Morons aren't the problem here.
It is not disrespectful:

While it’s true that a majority of retail and fast-food workers are over 20, the role of younger workers in the labor market—and their wages—shouldn’t be dismissed so quickly when analyzing how costs of goods are affected. Here are a few key points to consider:

  1. Younger Workers Are a Significant Portion of Fast-Food Employees
While workers under 20 may not dominate every sector, fast food, in particular, relies heavily on younger employees. Data from organizations like the Bureau of Labor Statistics shows that teenagers and young adults (ages 16-19) account for a substantial percentage of fast-food workers, often in part-time roles. When wages for this group increase significantly, the costs of doing business for employers rise across a wide base of workers.
  2. Wage Increases for Any Worker Create a Ripple Effect
Even if young workers aren’t the majority, they are part of the wage structure. When wages for entry-level positions increase—many of which are filled by younger workers—employers often adjust pay scales upward across the board to maintain equity and retain senior workers. This can have a compounding effect on labor costs, which businesses may pass on to consumers through higher prices.
  3. Labor Costs Are a Key Driver in Fast Food and Retail
In industries like fast food, labor is one of the largest expenses. A significant increase in wages for a large segment of workers, including those under 20, directly impacts operational costs. These businesses operate on tight margins, and even a small increase in wages can lead to price adjustments on menu items or products to maintain profitability.
  4. High Turnover Amplifies Costs
Younger workers, especially high school students, are often part of the workforce with the highest turnover rates. This means businesses spend more money on recruiting, hiring, and training, which are additional labor-related costs. When wages rise for this group, businesses not only pay more per hour but also bear the increased costs of continually replacing and training young workers.
  5. Labor Costs Don’t Exist in Isolation
The wages paid to workers—regardless of age—are part of what determines the price of goods and services. While record corporate profits and other factors also influence pricing, it’s overly simplistic to suggest that increasing pay for younger workers doesn’t have an effect. For example, if a fast-food franchise employs a significant number of high school or college students earning $16-$18/hour instead of a lower historical minimum wage, those costs are baked into the prices charged to customers.
  6. Minimum Wage Increases Often Start with Younger Workers
Many younger workers, particularly those in high-turnover, entry-level jobs, are directly affected by minimum wage increases. When wage floors rise, employers adjust pay for these younger employees first. Even if younger workers themselves aren’t the largest demographic driving wage reform, their roles often set the baseline for how costs ripple through the economy.

It’s not to say that younger workers are solely responsible for driving up costs of goods, but to ignore their role is to miss a critical part of the equation. Wages for younger employees absolutely factor into business expenses and, in turn, pricing strategies—especially in industries like fast food and retail, where these workers make up a notable part of the labor force.

Post the videos.

You'll find that they're... ugh... different.

FWIW, what I'm referencing weren't still frames. They were video clips, one of which featured one of them doing a near identical movement twice in a row like Elon did. If I can find them again I'd happily post them but they're probably somewhere deep in my social feed history now.

Also, I realize I've help take this thread down a weird rabbit hole along with a collection of others. We're supposed to be talking about Trump accomplishments, not Elon's weird salute. We can continue the conversation in a more appropriate area if people would like but should probably get this thread back on track.

I mean, if the constituency that voted for you are a bunch of drooling idiots that wait to plug the mush formerly known as a brain into Fox News to see how they're supposed to think about any particular topic, why wouldn't you say this?

There isn't anything they can say or do that their devoted MAGA followers won't believe. Once Biden is in the rearview mirror, they'll just say that it's MAGA to suffer, that paying high prices and being materially worse off is just the price to pay to make liberals drink their tears. And you know what will happen?

They'll believe it. This is how people and politics works and it's how people and politics will always work.

I can't tell if you would be f#&%ing awesome to drink with or if I would literally have to keep my eye on you while we were drinking, never knowing what you might do or say next.

I guess either way it would be fun!
