Turner Gill: Hire Him

I sent off an email to the Administration office this morning ... just short and sweet.

To me, it makes so much sense to have Turner Gill as our Assistant Head Coach. What a great coach and recruiter we would add to this team. We can get find a way to him here, find him a spot ... pay for it.

I want him in our family ... GET ER' DUN!

I'm not stating this to hear all the reason why it can't happen.

You're going to have to hear them anyways. Turner Gill is too good to come back and just be an assistant; he knows that, his players know that, Nebraska knows that. It'd be great, but it's just not going to happen. No guy would go back to their alma mater to be an assistant coach if another Division 1 head coaching opportunity was right around the corner.

It'd would be pretty damn sweet to have him on the staff though.

lol. That's kind of what I was thinking. This guy needs a blog or something....

Anyway, I'd be a monkey's uncle of Turner came back for an "assistant head coach" position. It makes no sense. If you were a regional manager for Taco Bell, would you take a position at a BK as the fry-o-lator operator because you grew up next door to a Burger King?

 
Other than the obvious question you don't want to hear, Why would he want to take a lessor job here..

he has a job.. and we have no staff openings at the moment, let's keep the "make work" positions limited to sleasy socialist politics please

As nice as it would be for him to come back, it will not happen. If TO would have taken the job for a couple of years then I can understand why he would come back....TO could groom him (what grooming he still may have needed) and let him take over. Bo is here and I cannot imagine Turner wanting to come back to be an assistant.

 
Isn't Gill older than Bo? Why would we make him a coach in waiting when he's older than the head ball coach now? I've heard of backup QB's and such before, but I've never heard of backup head coaches.

apparently you aren't familiar with the situation at Texas. Mack has named Muschamp the next head coach after he retires.

 
^ yeah, but we're talking about being a designated future head coach. Obviously, it doesn't make sense to say "Turner, you're going to be HC after Pelini retires. Except you're older than him so by the time he retires, you'll probably be retired too."
