I've read he'll be able to play in 2018.  He's already enrolled at OSU.  The thing that I read stated a student athlete must sit an academic year.  Well, he's started fall term and will "sit" fall, winter and spring because OSU is on the quarter system and classes begin long after those at Nebraska.  In fact, tomorrow (10/8) is the deadline to begin classes here.
