Tyler Legate not getting much love??

Re-watch the 4th quarter and watch him blow up every linebacker that got in Burkhead's way. He deserves a lot of credit for those long runs that came in the 4th and if you don't mind, he deserves his own thread if I say so myself.

:thumbs Fullback play, glad to see Beck has them back in the offense!

Also in the fourth quarter they had Burkhead lined up as a fullback and ripping off yards. I am guessing they stuck him in there to get some speed and elusiveness to eat up the clock.

I will have to re-watch the 2nd half before I can totally agree but sans the review I am sure you are correct. The fullback position is often over looked and it stands to reason with the gapping holes we had the 4th quarter that Legate was more than likely blowing up defenders. On top of that I am just real impressed with this Legate kid. He seems to be from the same mold as some of our great FB's. I would like to see them get him the ball more on those quick hit first options. Historically those plays have treated us extremely well and also help loosen up later options. I was more dialed in to what our line was doing and I am still somewhat confused about that. Holes started opening no doubt but I still didn't see much surge coming off the line. That tells me that the play calling was excellent and the line was executing very well. O line does not have to push defenders backwards but simply use leverage and the defenders own inertia to steer them where they want and then of course get down field and engage the next level of D. No doubt well called and executed O by everyone including Legate.

Legate is a tremendous blocker. He always finds somebody to block, kid puts in work everyday and probably doesn't care if it is frequently noticed, guarantee it shows up in the film room though.

Legate played well on Saturday, he's come a long ways since the beginning of the season. Very encouraging to see, and both he and Ron Brown deserve credit.

I agree. And Legate runs the ball well when called upon to do so. Reminds me a bit of Cory Schlessinger(sp), but then again, it's been a while since we had a FB, so perhaps that's just nostalgia talking. :)

Legate is an absolute beast. I knew about him when he was in high school and recruited by the University of South Dakota before transferring to Nebraska. He piled up the yards in high school so has experience carrying the ball, although on an ENTIRELY different level. He earned his scholarship by working hard and selling out every snap, practice and games. He is very selfless and a team player which makes him the perfect pack for the fourth quarter when we are trying to wear teams down. He is an extra lineman on the field, and I love watching him on Saturdays!

Good point...glad you observed this. Believe me, the people that need to recognize are...

cheers to the freakin fullback.

kinda of a bummer that he is a Sr., though. Would have liked to seen him play in this offense a couple of years. Maybe Zimmerer can fill that role? He is a scholarship player, afterall.
