UCLA Week Pressers

Anybody know what's up with Shavers? Seems like he didn't play (or maybe even travel) to OSU, but I'm hoping it's nothing long term.

EDIT: Nevermind, at least saw him on a kickoff. So he did play, which makes me feel better.

The same could be said about almost every play ever ran. If someone did their assignment better they would all be good plays.
Okay, but the point is that the play calling is maybe not so terrible. That was the right call with the situation and the pressure they brought.

The bigger issue perhaps lies with how well they are coaching these plays in practice and how well they are simulating perimeter blocking.

Like how do you not know something like that about your starting QB? Did you never do any sort of scrambling drills, or even just watch him run at all? "Gee, where did those legs come from?"

Sherman seems to be coming along nicely.  Wasn't really expecting much after not doing much of anything last year.

At this point I think Satt is just trolling the fans.  We heard from C. Wright that Dylan was scrambling all week in practice.  And we've seen it happen in numerous Chasing 3 videos since fall camp.

He's just hoping to get it in Dylan's ears to encourage him to do a bit more of it. Let's be honest. There was nothing special about those scrambles, they are plenty clunky, but need to happen here and there when things break down.

In regards to the screens, maybe if Banks isn’t making the blocks you allow somebody else to try like Bullock who we’ve seen make some great blocks.  I don’t know, it’s just hard when one guy is constantly put in the same position and shows he isn’t capable of doing what the coaches ask, maybe try another guy if you are insisting on running those plays?

Or .... you know .... if a guy isn't blocking and struggling mightily to get open, you question what he's actually doing out there and maybe try someone else.

Read today he is the highest rated freshman LB this to date per PFF.

Right I've been mostly happy with what I've seen from him, just didn't recall seeing him at all against OSU. I've got no complaints with the defensive performance. But I felt like Stefon Thompson's playing time was dropping while Shavers was getting more, and last week was the opposite. Could be as simple as wanting the bigger body in there to take on blocks though, and to me UCLA feels like a good Shavers game. Speed at LB is going to be more important than being physically stout.
