Yeah, he won the Grey Cup in 1988.  They were 9-9 in the regular season that year.

I didn't realize the post-season record was in a different column.  He was 40-32 (55%) in the regular season as a head coach in the CFL.  He did go 6-2 in the playoffs which I didn't see earlier.  But obviously he didn't have to be really great to make the playoffs.

He was 11-9 (55%) as a head coach in the world leage.

So where I was getting that is from his actual record.

Is that like having a season propped up by winning a bowl game after going 5-7 in the regular season?

 
Riley's CFL success and subsequent hires kinda reminds me of Oklahoma hiring Schnellenberger. He got hired based on success he hadn't had in years.
