Upon further review

Callahan still has a walk-on program, a high graduation rate, great recruiting skills, and until this year, we did see progress in the team. Maybe Callahan just needs some mentoring from Dr. Tom to move past his control issues on this team and grow as a coach -- Steve Pederson could never provide that type of a realtionship or input.

Very nice overview....I especially agree with this part....I'm sure your get lambasted here in a second, but thanks for not posting "Callahan sucks....coaches suck.....blah , blah, blah"
Well I'm sure the next coach will have all those fine qualities and hopefully beable to win also. By the way I't seem Callahan is losing his vaunted recruiting class, so what good is his great recruiting skills doing for Nebraska?

I'll add my positive spin to go with the mood. Bill Callahan will have a 50% bowl record at Nebraska after this year.

I'm all for Bill Callahan staying on as head equipment manager. Cleaning helmets would be a good job for him.

You have a lot of faith in someone you don't even know right now.

Also...great. Now it's Callahan's fault our recruiting class is falling to pieces? Give me a break...

The problem with keeping him and letting him hire all new assistants is that it turns into a situation like Peterson or Solich.

Everyone thought that Peterson should go because we can't let him hire the next coach, look at the one he chose in the first place. He can't be trusted.

So why do we allow BC to hire a new staff to save his own a$$ when he's the one the chose all of his buddies in the first place. What is the difference here???? The other problem I have is that he is saying things like we or I have done a good job. I am doing a great job, and all that garbage, but look how good of a job he is doing. We are breaking all kinds of records, just the ones that we all hoped would never be broken. It is a terrible situation and Callahan doesn't have the slightest clue how to fix it, even if it were as simple as firing a couple of assistants, which won't happen, or giving up the play calling, ego gets in the way here.

The other problem with keeping him and allowing him to choose a new staff is, isn't that what happened with Solich? There are differences, but if it doesn't work out with the new assistants next year, do we clean house and not get anyone here because everyone's afraid of coaching at Nebraska.

The best and most logical solution is to fire BC and company, start new, bring back Nebraska Tradition and build on that. Callahan dug his own grave, much like Peterson did.

Plus remember, these are his recruits, when we were winning prior, they were not all his recruits, they were recruits who still knew what it meant to play for, not just at, Nebraska.

I've said all along if Callahan can make the changes that are needed to turn things around, I'd be fine with him staying. I just question whether he's capable/willing to make those changes. We'll see what happens.
I'm with you. I don't think he can swallow his pride or arrogance long enough to do it. He couldn't

even let Watson call the whole game agains A&M.

:bang :bang :bang

Well I would think the next coaching pick would be done by coaching search commitee, and they would pick a qualified coach to lead the program. I doubt a search commitee would have come up with Callahan as a choice, if they were used last time instead of done by an egotistical AD.

Well who put Callahan in this perdictiment? Was it the fans or his team getting blown out by 30 the last three games there by causing recruits to wonder how long he'll be around.

If every year he has to fight the rumors about being fired he becomes more of a risk then a liability.

Sure fans on this board can get together and say nice things about Callahan but the radio personalities, tv reporters, ESPN, and print journalists are not going to stop reporting about what is going on in the program.

I'd like to agree with you, but it seems BC is NOT inclined to cooperate with TO, or fully relinquish play calling for good.

I don't think Cally is up for full pads 3x a week, or 1s vs 1s regularly. Also, I think the system is too complex.

For him to stay, he'd have to move about 180 degrees, and so far, I've seen about 20.

I won't lambast you, but I'll go ahead and post this for old time's sake.

Callahan has as much chance of turning this team around as I do. That is to say, none. I admire your optimism, but thankfully at this point nothing can stop Callahan's quick descent into darkness.

Got your point across real good x!

Don't know if he can let go of the play calling. He would have to admit that hes not good at it, and I don't think he has shown that he can be humble. We could have and should have been ahead at half time last game. If he was working with the defense the first half and they were playing better than they had since the USC game, why did he take the play calling back in the second half? Because Watson was showing him he could call a better game then he could, and his ego couldn't handle it. He has a lot of maturing to do as a head coach. Has to realise that his DC isn't the right man for the job and hes not the right man for OC. Can he come to grips with that, he better or this ship sinks lower and lower.

GBR!!!

I am not sure Callahan can make any of the changes I outlined above, and I can understand the pessimism that many fans have at this time, but I am not ready to write Callahan off quite yet. Let's see what happens over the next few weeks.

I know the recuiting class is being hurt by the speculation at the moment -- but I do not believe that is going to change much regardless of what happens.

So until the end of the season, I will support these players and hope for the best from the team and the coaching staff.

I respect your optimism...but frankly, I think your crazy. Not in any way will this staff be back. I think listening to the press conference, we see a man who is trying and has been beaten down (and is also putting on a sales pitch), and being Nebraska fans, want to feel compassion. But let's be honest...this thing fits like a Hollister T-Shirt on Louie Anderson.
