Us Against the Big 10

We're 17-5 against the Big 10 since 1980. I know this doesn't mean jack, but I'm sick of all the rumor threads, etc. We haven't played against the Big 10 since 2005, which coincidentally was the only game where I was proud of our team during the Cally years(even though we got an assist from the zebras). I counted Penn State as part of the Big 10 even though they weren't in the conference back then. Any fond memories of the games below? My favorites would have to be our I-backs making Michigan St. look silly in 1995, Crouch run in 1999 where he laid out their safety, 1996 Michigan State punt return for a TD from Fulmer.

Ha ha! I just looked at the YouTube of that call again.

Definitely one of the all-time worst calls. The ref was looking right at the WR. And he didn't remotely come close to landing in bounds. He was at least two, maybe three, feet OB.

I have one memory of a Big 10 vr Nebraska game that we won but as far as I am concerned will always live in infamy. The following is from Wickapedia, a synopsis of the game:

Date: 1995-09-09

Location: Spartan Stadium, East Lansing, Michigan

Game attendance: 73,891

 

No. 2 Nebraska lost quarterback Tommie Frazier early in the second quarter with a bruised thigh but still dominated Michigan State in a 50-10 rout at East Lansing. The Cornhuskers outrushed the Spartans 552 to 45 and piled up 666 total yards to the Spartans' 335. Lawrence Phillips led all rushers with 206 yards and four touchdowns (three 1-yard scores and one 50-yard score off a direct snap play) on 22 carries. The Huskers also received strong rushing performances from Clinton Childs (eight carries, 83 yards) and Ahman Green (4 carries for 74 yards, including one 57-yard touchdown), as well as Jay Sims, who had one carry for an 80-yard touchdown late in the game. Backup quarterback Brook Berringer, stepping in place of Frazier, threw for 106 yards on 6 of 11 passing, including a 51-yard bomb to a diving Reggie Baul. The Nebraska defense recorded three sacks, two fumble recoveries and one interception. The game marked MSU's worst margin of defeat since a 42-0 loss against Michigan in 1983.

 

LP was on his way to a Heisman Trophy season and then he came home to Lincoln. Finding his girlfriend in another players apartment his temper got the best of him and his life has spiraled downward ever since. He did have a few more great games for the Huskers culminating with a great game against Florida in the Fiesta Bowl against the ballywhoed and over hyped Florida Gators who were coached by the over rated Steve Spurrior.

We have a great opportunity to establish ourselves in the Big Ten and it is not as tall of a task as you may think. Sure, Wisconsin will be tough, but they lose a RB, a QB, and an Offensive Coordinator. Ohio State, still don't think Pryor will come back. After that we avoid stubbing our toe against an overrated and over-hyped MSU team and we very well could win that thing.

Pryor and the other 4 will be back. 2 days left and still no signs of waivering in their commitment to coming back.

Wisconsin may have lost a RB but they have a power back that has little to no drop off in talent from and a change of pace back that will outrun a gassed defense after getting pounded out by the power back. The QB never really had that big a role in their offense except NOT screwing up and being able to sell the play action. I'm pretty confident they'll hire an o-coord that stays true to their brand of football so I wouldn't expect too much variation from the line it up and pound it down the throat style of football they love but I could be wrong.

MSU, eh if you get the good version of that team then it'll be a nice fight between both teams unless you can't stop their run game. If you get the not so good version of them then expect to route them fairly easily unless you hand them the game in a bread basket.

Still, a new QB at Wisconsin is a new QB. Always an adjustment period when you have to break in a new QB. Losing a running back of John Clay's calibur is never good. Not saying Monte Ball isn't good, but you will still see a drop-off as you will with a new OC.

Pryor and the boys, okay they come back and their first game back they have to go to Lincoln.

Very valid points and I agree with you on them all however I just can't ever underestimate Wisky. They are a very curious team sometimes and you just never know how bruised up they'll leave you. I guess we'll see how they cope with the losses after the season starts, then i'll determine how "worried" I should be of them.
