USC Game Preview

Give us a report afterwards. It would be neat to hear about the blackout and the crowd noise - hopefully a win.
I love Lincoln on game day. It’s just so energetic and fun. I haven’t been to a night game since they started the light show between 3rd and 4th. Looking forward that. Got champions club passes so tailgating is taken care of.

The only thing is, wife wants to shop that day….then it’s always an argument about what time to be back downtown enjoying the pomp and circumstance.

Life is a struggle.

You must hand out t shirts/towels if you want a true black out. It only works at places like Penn State or Iowa where you're asking people to wear the color they already were gonna wear, as you pointed out. Changing that color never works completely. Red out is it for us otherwise.

It's hardly a change though. We've been incorporating black for a long time now, and this has had plenty of notice for attendees. It's a small ask for people who......checks notes....sit in the stands to watch their team play. We boast to have some of the best football fans in the country, yet if we can't organize something like this without free handouts it kinda debunks that theory.

I disagree.

All the nonsense, and foofaraw is just form over function...style over substance.

Its silly, a waste of energy, and resources that should be spent on an O-Line.

Nebraska is a get the job done first, then worry about the nonsense type culture.

I would guess most of the Nebraska football fans would go along with it to be good sports, but on the inside they're secretly thinking: "WTH?.....we cant beat the dipship gophers , and we're worried about uniforms?"

When in Lincoln on game day you got to do all the pomp and circumstances you can. Enjoy - and don't roll your eyes too much while you are shopping.

In SoCal I have watched a lot of USC football. I have family members who’s team is USC. This is a make or break game for our defense. It could be an epic night for the Blackshirts to be back. We need the crowd! This is the best offense we will face all year. The QB is hard to bring down and is very good on the move. They have weapons at receiver all over the field. Just when you think USC is out of the game they have a knack to strike big plays. Their running game can pop big plays too. Butler will rise or fall tomorrow.

And of course we’ll need to put up points too. I think special teams will play a big factor in the outcome. We will need plays on special teams to win.

60 minutes to glory. If it’s 14-14 at the half don’t get complacent as USC can rip off points very quickly. I’m expecting them to put up 40+. For us to have a chance to win we need to keep them under 30. GBR.

Passing Offense: #1 USC
Passing Yards Allowed: #2 Nebraska

They also average 204 rushing yards per game. The passing matchup looks like a fun battle on paper, but we have to stop the run to even make it a factor in the game.

One other note - this is probably true for other players on their roster, but I am confident this will be the coldest football game Maiava has ever played in, which is wild. High school in Vegas, maybe they traveled somewhere cold but I doubt it because the interstate HS games tend to be early in the year. UNLV played some cold weather teams, but either early in the year or at home. He only had one road game last year at USC, and it was against UCLA. His bowl games have been in Phoenix and Vegas. The only games that might qualify as "cold" were UNLV @ Air Force 11/18/2023 -the high that day was 55 and it was a 1:30 MT game, so not terrible. And then 2 weeks ago against Notre Dame which was miserably rainy but I believe still in the 60s that evening. We're probably overestimating the impact of cold weather, but this will pretty comfortably be one of, if not the, coldest game some of their guys have ever played in.

Cold is a big deal to kids from Southern Cal. It could be so much worse though... they honestly got lucky. 2018 the low was 21°. Looking back through the last 50 years, about 30% of the Nov 1st temps were colder.
