USC game. What did we learn

#7 and #56 don't need to see the field anymore.  They went after #7 from the jump.  #56 is just terrible and the opposing offense seems to move the ball at will anytime he is in the game

We literally have 32 defensive backs on the roster, but apparently can only play a guy who has apparently been hurt for two months and a guy who's been routinely beaten for the past year-and-a-half.
And if you don't know who these two are you haven't watched Nebraska football...  Our secondary, especially in man to man needs to change...  lets put butler in the same category as foley...  just a thought...

I know Nebraskan’s want and/or need a warm vacation in late December or even early January; but, I am hearing some clatter about teams not making the 12 skipping a bowl game to get better in the portal. A few players may make you better than some more practice?

Maybe give more credit to former HC Mike Riley.  He did it twice in three years.  Yall ran him off for Frost.

The reality is that Riley is the best coach this program has had since 2015, and he is a career .500 coach. We need to demand more from the AD's making these horrible coaching decisions.

Rhule is 21-39 in his last 5 seasons as a head coach. He is not the guy to turn this program around, but he would make a great preacher!

Learned I wish we were Kansas University football.  They may suck too but they bring their nut sacks and show up to try and win and beat ranked teams.  We can’t even beat teams that have losing records.  Just inconceivable
This is a great observation.  I didn’t watch all the BYU game (I’m getting too old to stay up).

They have had a terrible year, but they are still fighting.  We have not fight.

Its become pathetic to say over the last month or so….. I wish we were more like Kansas or Colorado.

All good. I appreciate it. Didn’t think that. Apologies if it did. Im with you. I’m just ticked.  We are now almost a no dimensional offense.  No effective passing game. No effective running game. I’m a run the ball guy. Would prefer to lose slugging it out on the ground with HH and EJ and maybe a FB (Bonner) to try and open up some type of run game to let HH try to throw the same poor passing game. We have completely imploded.  Maybe another week of practice and film Holgo can figure something out. Whites going to need to let every position on D be open.
I get wanting to change something. Anything at this point. I really do.

But unless he’s improved substantially over last year HH isn’t the answer either. Remember how last year ended? He’s not beating Wisconsin or Iowa. If he’s back there they’ll both load the box and make him throw, and that won’t be pretty.

At this point, if we have to change something, I’d rather give Kaelin a chance. Unfair to him at this point. But the upside is so much higher.

And then watch what Raiola does somewhere else next year when he plays for a competent coach. We just continue to whiff on coaching.

HH really need this game to warm up if he was going to try to win us the Wisconsin or Iowa game. I don't think there is much of a drop off now between DR and HH currently,  though.  HH can run more and Dylan isn't even seeing the wide open WRs sometimes and has missed on some crucial passes when he has seen them.

Unsure if HH has improved at all to be honest.  When DR went out, and HH came in he played with intensity and had some zip on the ball.   A full week of practice as the #1might be able to eek out a win.  And that's my frustration.  We have no "dude" on offense that will give this team a spark.  No leader.  Who is the guy you see on offense (or defense really) that is getting guys faces, making the plays, going 100%, 100% of the time?  I see no one.  not one single person.  And I am hoping that the guy who was injured last year, is a RB playing QB, and went 5-7 can get us bowling......Couple of guys I'd look at as staff to bring in, but none of it'll happen.

And like you, DR is out.  And to be honest, I do not care.  Rhule went on in on him  leading this team as a true fresh. From the tunnel walk, to being the starter, to bringing in Dana and to keeping Donnie on staff. To keep DR means to keep Donnnie so on that alone, he can hit the portal.  Sadly, NU has been the school where players go to die....

I learned that Deion and the Indiana coach were right. In the era of NIL/transfers a whole scale replacement of players may be the only way to turn around a loser culture. And that is what we have- a culture of losing. We need a coach from a winning lower level school to bring in players who have proven they know how to win. And in the Big 10 that also means they know how to run the ball first.

Rhule built his hope around a freshman.  A good portal WB would have been better - maturer leadership while also allowing DL to get his redshirt season. We then could have gotten a new OL coach.   I really don’t see another win this year.
It would then be better for apathy to set in and the cash cow of fans showing up for games to dry up. Maybe that would get the attention of the administration.   Why spend millions on the stadium when you can’t put a good product on the field??

......we keep playing a 5'7" DB who wears #7 and should be playing FCS against similar sized players.  So he can have a chance to be effective.

That way, he doesn't get beat in routine coverage 4-8 times a game in big boy games.

By the way, #2 has done nothing on defense this year.  No matter how bad-a$$ he acted and spoke during the off-season and by returning for his 5th or 6th year.

It's like the Blackshirts are playing 9 against 11 ever play.  s#!t get's old, seriously.   <_<
That's an overlooked comment. In the offseason all the talk was how great it was to have 5th and 6th year guys back on defense. Maybe that isn't a good thing. The more Frost mentality guys move on the better IMO. Now it's just permeating another regime.  Losing begets losing.

One thing we know for sure, HH would play hard. And you’re probably correct, I’m not sure he’s much of a downgrade right now. I’ve actually only gotten to watch one full game this year (Indiana, lucky me) and bits and pieces of others. But watched a couple of series of the USC game this morning, and DR looks really bad. Dump downs for a loss when we do have a receiver open. At this point, it’s like we needed to do with Adrian, one read an and go (or for Raiola, dump it). At least if you dump it early the pass isn’t coming from 10 yards behind the line of scrimmage and the back has a chance to make some yards.

Why do we refuse to throw quick stuff, slants to our big WRs (if they can’t get the defender on their back hip off the line of scrimmage, they shouldn’t be on the field), or Fidone just post up at 7-8 yards with the defender behind him. Quick, simple, no decision throws. Then when a competent OC sees the corners sneaking up on the routes, the pump fake and goes are there. Stop making your QB try to make multiple reads (becasue it’s not working).

I didn't learn anything.

I already knew our WR's are worthless

I already knew game management sucked.

I already knew that our RB's can't read holes.

I already knew we were good enough to win this game, but can't figure it out.

Arizona State was 3-9 last season.  The Sun Devils are now 8-2 with a 34-year old first time head coach.  I watched UNLV's offense tonight and that's what I would like Nebraska's offense to become.  They believe in the run game to set up the pass.  Hajj-Malik Williams is better than anyone on the Nebraska QB roster.

It's this. Why not Nebraska? We've had a lot of talk on here about unrealistic fan expectations, the difficulty of recruiting to Lincoln, the time it takes to build a new culture.

But other teams do it all the time.

It's weird to talk this way, but why can't Nebraska be Arizona State? How can Indiana do it and not us? How does Missouri, SMU, Army and Tulane pull it off? At this point wouldn't you rather be Colorado?  On this particular morning wouldn't you rather be Kansas?
