i just read on ESPN.com that their starting center went down with a torn triceps. out 2-4 weeks. it said they don't have a lot of backup at that position. could be huge for us and Suh could eat a lesser man.

 
I'm sure by "not a lot of backup" they mean they only have two former 5-star centers behind the guy :)

 
Actually the article states that they are thin there. To paraphrase Carroll....anyone who has any experience playing on the line has been playing multiple places. They have depth at the "skill" positions but not on the front line apaprantely.

This looks good for our "green" defensive front four IMO.

 
even if the backup is decent, he's not going to be as good as the starter. and, if the starter comes back, it'll be his first game.

i see this as a poetential positive to control the line of scrimmage.

 
Their starter graduated and now the new starter gets hurt. So now last years backup LG moves over to center. This is the type of situation that's ripe for mishaps. It would be great if they were at full strength when we beat them, but I'll take what I can get. :)

Their starter kahlil went pro, is thier backup Jeff byers? He is from Loveland CO. Tops in the state a few years ago. I think he played as a true freshman, but was hurt last year and redshirted. I could be wrong though.

 
The backup may be fine at blocking and have all of the other skills. But.......and it is a HUGE but, if i were USC i would be worried about the hand off between the center and the QB. That can take tons of practice to get used to a way the center gives you the ball. Granted they have 2+ weeks to work on it, but still there is the chance of some slip ups that could lead to turnovers in unfortunate situations.

I like what I am hearing. Especially since they do not have CALIBER depth on the O-Line. Now our VASTLY improved D-Line will get more pressure on Booty's booty! I made a funny!

What’s the deal with injuries to centers right now? Nevada has their top two centers out, and now USC’s starting center is injured.

I think they don’t want to face Suh. Fear the House of Spears.

 
I hope Suh tears through that line like wet Kleenex and makes Booty feel like Frank Costa circa January 1994.

Otherwise, if Suh gets double teamed a lot, I hope each and every one of our blitzing linebackers tears through that line like wet Kleenex and makes Booty feel like Frank Costa circa January 1994.

I can't wait for this game.

 
We had a pretty good backup last year, I'm sure they have great depth and besides I don't want any excuses when we win.
