USC: What Did We Learn

We needed that fourth quarter magic from Dylan. Damn.

It was a good game.

Didn’t love the decision to kick the field goal instead of go for it on the one we missed…but we were leading early in the fourth anyway.

When you’re up by any margin in the fourth you need you defense to shut the game down.

Yeah, totally agree.

This is the least mad I’ve been at a Husker loss in basically ever.
I don't know how you can be mad when we beat the spread, and most thought we'd lose by 2 scores to a legitimately better team. With Dylan we're a top 25 team, without him we're a crap shoot.

The defensive game plan was fine. We made USC uncomfortable all night and they had to adapt. Offensively, there are some critiques to be made, but I thought Dana did a good job of not being predicable in run/pass selection. Blowing timeouts really hurt us, and has been an Achilles of Rhule's for a long time. Special teams was lackluster and Archie isn't getting it done in the punting game. He just doesn't seem to have enough power.

It’s really not worth handwringing super hard over the field goal though, I suppose. Because ultimately we were leading in the fourth quarter.

We might’ve just gotten stopped on that drive and missed a field goal anyway, etc., etc.

I will say…we were missing a middle linebacker presence in this game. We got washed on the run or didn’t have anybody home in the middle - or both. Ugh.
