BLACKSBURG, Va. (AP) — Sean Glennon will be Virginia Tech's starting quarterback this year while sophomore Tyrod Taylor plans to redshirt.

Hokies coach Frank Beamer said Tuesday that Cory Holt will begin the season as the nominal backup, but Taylor would be likely to play if Glennon couldn't.

Glennon began last season as the Hokies' starter, but was replaced by Taylor after a slow start. Glennon got a second chance midway through the season when Taylor was injured, and reclaimed the job by playing well.

The senior was chosen most valuable player in the Hokies' victory over Boston College in the Atlantic Coast Conference championship game.

No. 15 Virginia Tech opens its season Saturday against East Carolina in Charlotte.

This is probally good for us, as Glennon is a just a drop back passer. He is a good drop back passer but he is pretty slow and not a threat to run. I image that it would be easier for Bo and Co to gameplan just one style of quarterback than two different styles.

i seem to remember saying that this was likely to happen in april and people doubted me...NOW WHAT?!?!

but seriously this is a good choice, gives tyrod a year to rest up so next year they can be a better team. as for us...i'm going to say 4 interceptions against va tech

add in the facts that their top 4 WRs graduated, and a likely starter is out with an injury for the season, and with the issues around their RBs, it really limits the VT offense.

Being a better pocket passer isn't an advantage if you have no one to throw to. This seems like something that they might have to rethink before they play us.
