Dan Van De Riet will now oversee Nebraska's recruiting department as part of a promotion to associate athletic director for football administration, a university spokesman announced on Wednesday.
The Huskers are in the process of splitting their recruiting and player personnel departments, per coach Mike Riley's directive. Van De Riet,
Riley's long-time right-hand man, will be in charge of the department that looks at how to best acquire players identified by the personnel department, which is led by Billy Devaney.
Riley explained his reasoning to split up the departments in his pre-spring football press conference.
“When you use that word ‘recruiting’ — like the coaches going out to recruit a player — it kind of morphs into the whole idea about, ‘Is the guy recruiting or evaluating?' ” Riley said March 1. “...So there’s two separate entities that everyone lumps into one word — recruiting."
