Very worried about Saturday night

the reason I am not too worried as I may have been 3-4 yrs ago is because our defense is so freaking good.

our defense automatically keeps us in games. they may not have a Suh or Dillard just plain stomping people this year, but our coverage and our ability to come up with a key turnover here and there just make offenses' have to execute about 90% of their plays during a game at an extremely high level.

now, our offense seems to give the ball up and have some costly mistakes and some glaring inconsistencies. IF aTm can capitalize on those, it could keep it close. However, if we come our guns blazing a la Mizz or Wash or OSU, again, with the Blackshirts, we are automatically in games.

kyle field rocks, no question about that..

but it's quiet when we're on D and your on O...allows us to get our checks and get lined up. then watch the confusion on the face of Tannehill as Prince and Dennard leave no space for throws.

Is that the inception theme music? I love the video.

That said, Washington's stadium is also quoted as "one of the most hostile environments".

Washington is no A&M, but our offense made no "crowd-induced" mistakes there. I'm more worried that the huskers will play like they did vs ISU or Kansas. It all matters which Husker team shows up. There is no games to look forward to at this point, so I think we will be ready for A&M.

This will be a fun one to watch.

Husker D vs. relatively inexperienced QB is the difference in this one I think. Pelini's D makes great QBs look terrible, I have a feeling this kid will have no clue what's going on in our secondary and will be forced to throw into spaces he's not comfortable throwing into. Like others have said though, if the offense can't get anything going, it'll be tight all night long. If Martinez is back to 100%, I think we'll handle our business and clinch the North. If he's where he was for the KU game, I don't like our chances.

As far as the hostile environment, I don't really see that helping or hurting us or them. We tend to feed off of hostile crowds and Bo's guys love playing in places like that. Plus, this time of year is when our D really dials it in, which we might be starting to see a little bit, so we'll see. I don't see a comfortable win by either team and I won't be surprised if we win or lose, toss up game. I wish they would go back to Johnson at QB though, he sucks, bad.

I haven't gotten the opportunity to see your team play in a while, but you play a lot of man coverage without safety help over the top, correct?

It depends on the situation. We mix it up so much, regardless of down-and-distance, that it's hard to note trends on our defense. Heck, we don't even sit in our stated "base" defense, the Peso, very often. Our defensive alignments change from series to series, and have been changing from down to down in our last few games.

Bo and Carl are very comfortable with the personnel they have at this point in the season, and they throw a LOT of stuff at them. I do not envy Tannehill making reads on our DEF.

I wouldn't say "a lot," but when teams spread the field, we're willing to man up without much safety help in order to take away short routes.

I don't foresee us trying to go vertical early. Cyrus Gray has gone for 100 yds four times in a row. Realistically, we are going to try and pound it out on the ground, set up a swing to Swope in the flats, and possibly take a shot downfield to Fuller if Tannehill recognizes man coverage.

I am looking forward to this game, because we actually have a shot to win.

I dont believe Swope will be able to bust coverage in the slot, and Cyrus might get his yards but as soon as we make the right adjustments could be tough for him. As for Tannehill, he hasnt seen a defensive backfield like this yet so this is his real litmus test.

I think it will be a close game. I appreciate your smug and hope your team feels the same way. Tannehill may be a little green at QB (he's been on the field all year), but we'll do more than you are giving us credit for. Please, keep thinking we'll show up and lay down like a week 2 1-AA team. You might have a long ride back to Lincoln in your future.

Nobody thinks Texas A&M is bad, or that they'll lay down. However, here's a list of QB's the Blackshirts have made look silly over the past 2 years:

Tyrod Taylor, Blaine Gabbert, Landry Jones, Colt McCoy, Nick Foles, Nathan Enderle, Jake Locker

Its not being smug, I gave you my honest opinion. We may have a long ride back, but I feel confident in our staff and our players.
