Vince Young or Tommie Frazier?

Special Teams Player
From Blair Kerkhoff of the Kansas City Star:

I’ve long thought of former Nebraska quarterback Tommie Frazier as the most valuable player in college football history.
Not the best, although he was sensational, but in terms of elevating a champion program’s status, few compare with Frazier, the option master, the heart and soul of the Cornhuskers’ national title teams of the mid-1990s.

Before Frazier: Big Eight champions, bowl-game punching bags. With Frazier: National-champion wallop and one of the greatest teams ever to wear pads. Many in red were responsible. Frazier is their symbol.

But Frazier now has some serious competition on my list. In light of last weekend’s disaster for Texas, college football’s all-time MVP award may belong to the fellow who watched the Longhorns unravel from a Darrell K. Royal/Memorial Stadium luxury box.

Credentials are growing for Vince Young, who could not inspire his former team to victory over Kansas State. He couldn’t come close, with the hungrier and more energized Wildcats rolling to a 41-21 smackdown.

Had Young been wearing the burnt orange we might have seen some of the magic that made him 30-2 as a starter, the ever-improving quarterback skills and other-worldly ad-lib instincts.

No college quarterback ever turned losses into greater gains — his last snap in the national championship victory over Southern California two years ago serves as the ultimate example.

With Young: Perfect season.

Before and after Young: Not as good as it should be for the program with the Big 12’s fattest budget, easiest access to some of the nation’s top high school talent, terrific facilities and just about every other advantage imaginable.

In other words, can Mack Brown coach? ....

That's a tough one....... I wish NU could have had Vince Young from '03 to '05 to compare the two a little better. But that's just me! <_<

Still, I'd go with Touchdown Tommie!!!! :thumbs

I'm going to go with Tommie Frazier. Vince Young was spectacular and he basically willed Texas to a National Championship but it was one year and he left for the Pros before his Senior season. Tommie Frazier won two National Championships and should have won a third in the 93' season, not to mention he was the offensive leader of one of the greatest college football teams of all time the 95' Cornhuskers.

If Young was here as our QB in 03-05...do we win a NC?

Good point! It would have been interesting to see what Young would have done here, but Tommie was the leader of THE BEST college football team of all time. What he did against Florida was more impressive then what Young did against USC, IMO.

i have to say vince...just because he basically won the national title by himself....nebraska had a defense when they won it only allowing 24 points basically 17 to florida...while texas allowed 38 to usc

I don't believe one can conclude that VY was more valuable because his team may not have been as good. Not having him behind center could have changed the outcome. If one assumes the two were equal in skill I'd have to go with TF because he was a high impact player over a longer period of time compared to VY. I think it would have been pretty much impossible to have replaced TF and still had the same impact even though he played on a better team. VY sure did make a lot out of what he had to work with though. Anyway you slice it, it comes down to personal opinions about two outstanding players.

"it comes down to personal opinions about two outstanding players"

:yeah

I would pick Tommie just because, my dad can beat up your dad.

Hands down Tommy Frazier. VY was a good QB, but IMO, he wasn't near the caliber a player as Frazier.

Tough one. Vince Young put Texas on his back for that championship. Tommie Frazier was a 3 time national championship game MVP(only player to ever do that). He has 2 titles, Vince has 1. I'd take either of them, but I think Vince is probably a little bit better because he was a more accurate passer and just as good a runner.

When I think of Tommie Frazier, I think of this:

YAW!

Sadly, I've witnessed both Tommie Frazier and VY run freaking wild on my team. They're both monsters.
